Did you know that above Halifax Borough Market there are two ‘secret’ streets? Discover them with VisitCalderdale’s  ‘Streets in the Sky’ guided tours!

On these tours you’ll explore the unique architecture of the Grade II* listed Halifax Borough Market, learn about its history, visit both of the Market balcony ‘Streets in the Sky’, where the houses are still used by the businesses below and a couple are still lived in; and get an exclusive look inside one of the uninhabited houses.

Afterwards you can do some shopping, grab a cuppa and enjoy some food at one of the locally-owned independent cafes and delis in the Market.

Please Note:

• The tours are best suited for adult ages and aren’t really suited for children aged under 13. Any children aged under 16 must be under close supervision of their guardian/parent at all times.
• There are many steps are involved in gaining access to both of the Streets in the Sky and more steps inside the house we visit, making this tour unsuitable for wheelchair users, those with limited mobility or children’s prams or buggies.
• No dogs on this walk, please (although Assistance Dogs are welcome).
• Places on each tour are limited to 16 people. The tour lasts for approx one hour fifteen minutes.
• Tickets cost £5 per person for all ages (there’s no charge for bringing along babes-in-arms).
• NB: The meeting point for the Tours is inside Halifax Borough Market, under the Market clock.

Tours of the Streets in the Sky above Halifax Borough Market will take place during the 2024 Halifax Heritage Festival! Tours will take place on the following dates and times in September:

Friday 6^th                   10am and 12.30pm

Monday 9th               10am, 12.30pm, 2.15pm

Wednesday 11th      10am  and 12.30pm

Saturday 14^th             10am, 12.30pm, 2.15pm

Please Note: Building work is still partially affecting both of the Streets in the Sky. Scaffolding and stored materials are present on both Streets, so they are currently not at their most photogenic. Please be aware of this before booking your tickets. Regular Tours of the Streets in the Sky will resume once all the building work is completed and the scaffolding, materials etc removed, providing you with the opportunity to see both Streets at their best.

Tickets for the 10am tours on Monday 9th, Wednesday 11^th and Saturday 14^th are only available over-the-counter from the Discover Halifax Hub at The Woolshops Shopping Centre, Halifax, HX1 1RJ from Tuesday 3^rd September.

The tickets for all the remaining tours are available online from the VisitCalderdale Eventbrite page from 6pm on Monday 2^nd September.

Tickets cost £5 (plus any Eventbrite fees). Refunds are not available.

If you’re unable to attend any of these dates, don’t worry, we intend to bring back regular Streets in the Sky Tours both during the week and on a weekend once the essential building works taking place at Halifax Borough Market allow.   When the regular tours recommence, you’ll be able to book online via Eventbrite and buy physical tickets over the counter from the Discover Halifax Hub. We’ll announce the dates for the return of the Tours on the VisitCalderdale Facebook, X and Instagram channels, as well as here on this blog.
