Getting to &
around Calderdale

Located in West Yorkshire, Calderdale is the southernmost of the Yorkshire Dales and covers part of the South Pennines area of beautiful river valleys, moorland and hill country.

Calderdale is not as well known as its Northern neighbours as it does not fall within the boundaries of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Yet Calderdale has a tremendous amount to offer visitors, time after time.

By road

The M62 motorway runs along the southern edge of the area, with access from junctions 21-26 and there are good connections with the M1, M6 and A1. The main routes through the borough include the A58 from Leeds to Littleborough via Halifax, the A646 from Halifax to Todmorden, A629 from Huddersfield to Elland, Halifax to Keighley, and the A672 across the Pennine Moors.

If you’re travelling by car, you’ll need to know where car parks are. Most towns contain a mix of both short and long stay parking – follow the ‘P’ signs. Please note that at weekends and during peak events, roads along the Valleys can become quite congested. Many towns in Calderdale also include on the road parking, varying from 1 hour to 4 hours which is monitored by pay and display meters. In smaller towns and villages, parking can be limited, please ensure that you park sensibly and do not obstruct other road users.
