Where to Celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in West Yorkshire

West Yorkshire is preparing to make the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee an occasion to remember! Here are some of the highlights so you can make the most of the long weekend. From street parties to tea parties, live music, art, food & drink and exhibitions – there’s something for you to in West Yorkshire this June.

In celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, on Sunday 5th June Tracy Brabin, The Mayor has made all bus journeys within West Yorkshire completely FREE so why not hop on a bus and travel anywhere in West Yorkshire and save the bus fare. You can find out more here.

CALDERDALE

Platinum Jubilee Celebrations at The Piece Hall, Halifax: Thursday 2nd – Saturday 4th June

Thursday 2 June

  • 10am – 12.30pm: Trooping the Colour (BBC content shown on the big screen)
  • 2pm: The Town Crier undertakes the proclamation announcing the beacon lighting which follows that evening.
  • 8pm: Procession of dignitaries from Halifax Town Hall
  • 8.30pm; Speeches by the Deputy Lieutenant, the High Sheriff, the Mayor of Calderdale, the Leader and Chief Executive of Calderdale Council and the Vice Chair of Calderdale Interfaith Council
  • 9.30pm: Drummers
  • 9.35pm: Piper playing ‘Diu Regnare’
  • 9.40pm: Bugle Call, ‘Majesty’
  • 9.45pm: Beacon on Beacon Hill being lit (footage will be shown on the big screen in The Piece Hall). The Calderdale Choir will sing ‘A Song for the Commonwealth’
  • 10pm: Close

Friday 3rd June

The Piece Hall will welcome teams from the emergency services for a family fun day. They will be bringing some of their vehicles into the courtyard for children to see up close. There will also be musical entertainment throughout the day from a number of the emergency service bands.

Saturday 4th June

The Piece Hall’s courtyard will be alive with music as it hosts a Concert for The Queen, featuring a broad range of local and national talent.

 

The Queen and Calderdale – Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee exhibition at Bankfield Museum, Halifax

In June, the Council will hold an exhibition at Bankfield Museum to celebrate Her Majesty’s reign and how it has been marked in Calderdale. It will include objects from the museum collection relating to the visit by the young Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip to Halifax in 1949, as well as Royal memorabilia from the Queen’s Coronation and the Silver and Golden Jubilees. The display will be a colourful, nostalgic and uplifting celebration of the relationship between Her Majesty and the people of Calderdale. Pride of place will be a dress said to be worn by the Queen at a garden party in the 1960s.

 

Ripponden Jubilee Market: Friday 3rd June 11am – 5pm

A family fun-filled food, drink and homemade market to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee, with entertainment throughout the day. The Queen’s Jubilee market will be located on the car park opposite St Bartholomew’s Church, outside the Church building and in The Old Bridge Inn car park, to ensure safety for all visitors and to keep the event centrally located in Ripponden.

BRADFORD

Bradford Great Jubilee Tea: Thursday 2nd June 2022

Take a trip to Bradford for a big celebration to mark Her Majesty The Queen’S Platinum Jubilee. Come down to City Park from 6.30pm to join the festivities, the event aims to have the largest cake stall in the north, laden with sweet treats from around the globe. To keep the street-party vibe going there will be music and entertainment, all leading up to the lighting of the official Platinum Jubilee Beacon at 9.30pm. The family friendly event, organised in partnership with community groups and organisations from across the district is free and open for everyone to attend.

 

Keighley Transport Festival: Thursday 2nd & Friday 3rd June 2022

The town of Keighley will be a buzz celebrating with a whole host of transport-related events. Expect to see the unexpected alongside classic cars, buses, steam trains, motorbikes and more. As part of a town-wide celebration of transport, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway will be running a double steam service on Thursday 2nd June & Friday 3rd June to coincide with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee holiday. A free family festival not to be missed, with street theatre, music, food, and activities.

 

Saltaire Vintage Fashion Fair: Saturday 4th June 2022

Join in a Vintage Extravaganza! Saltaire Vintage Home & Fashion Fair at the Victoria Hall on Saturday 4th June, with over 40 stalls full of authentic vintage loveliness for you and your home, including vintage fashion, furniture, records, jewellery, accessories, homewares, toys, books, kitchenalia, and collectibles from the 1920s to 1980s. Not to mention the wonderful teas from Interlude Tea Room & Emporium, all of which make for a superb day out in Saltaire, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

 

Real Food Ilkley: Sunday 5th June 2022

Join in the celebrations in Ilkley for the Platinum Jubilee. In the heart of Ilkley visit the Real Food Ilkley Fine Food & Speciality Producers Market to tantalise your taste buds on Sunday 5th June

(10:00 – 15:00) . There are a wide variety of traders to see at the monthly market, from fruit gins to fruity jams, fine art to baking masterpieces. Every first Sunday of the month, the Real Food Ilkley market takes place on The Grove. Tables will be set up along The Grove, providing a party atmosphere, where you can sit back and relax with your market-bought lunch. Enjoy a day out in Ilkley and stop by the Bandstand for some live music with a Jubilee theme.

 

LEEDS

City Centre Street Parties: Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June

From Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June, Leeds CIty Centre will come alive to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with street food, live music and other festivities at street parties at five sites including: Merrion Street East, Greek Street, New Briggate, Call Lane and Lower Briggate.

 

Queens Jubilee Scarecrow Festival & Picnic: Thursday 2nd June 3pm – 5th Sunday June 6pm 

Kippax Parish Council is planning a weekend of activities to mark the Queen’s Jubilee in Kippax including a beacon lighting ceremony at Cheney Basin, royal-themed Scarecrow Festival, and a picnic in the park at Kippax Common with Breeze inflatables and fairground rides.

 

Summertime Live: 1st June 5pm – 11pm Temple Newsam Leeds

It’s Jubilee Bank Holiday so there is no work the next day – Summertime Live returns to Temple Newsam for another huge festival experience and the biggest party of the summer! Classic Ibiza are back with a huge headline performance and a brand new set of your favourite dance anthems performed live by 32 piece orchestra!

PLUS a festival style site with DJs, Live Mingling Entertainers, Festival fashion, Glitter makeup stalls and a huge range of bars & street food vendors!

 

Pudsey Jubilee Music & Arts Festival: Friday 3rd June 12pm –  Sunday 5th June 3pm 

Come along to the Pudsey Jubilee Music & Arts Festival to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee over the June Bank Holiday Weekend. We are planning 3 days of live music, DJs, workshops, stalls and more. The main event will take place on Saturday 4th June all day and into the evening.

 

WAKEFIELD

Jubilee Celebrations and Beacon Lighting at Pontefract Castle

What better backdrop for a royal event than a mighty castle? Join us for a 1950s themed celebration Thursday 2 (2-10pm) and Friday 3 (10am – 4pm) June at Pontefract Castle to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Expect fantastic live music, street food, picnic areas and plenty for the kids to do too, with free arts and crafts and creative bubble workshops taking place throughout the weekend. Plus keep an eye out for the Royal Guard stilt walkers, the Great British Tea Party and Union Jack themed flag dancers! The celebrations continue on Saturday in town with a craft market and entertainment hosted by the Pontefract Civic Society.

 

The Queen’s Jubilee celebrations in Coronation Gardens

Head over to Wakefield city centre on Saturday 4 June from 10am – 4pm for a free community event to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Queen’s reign. Activities will take place in Coronation Gardens and adjoining Wood Street and will include free jubilee themed craft workshops, themed street entertainers dressed as the Queen’s Royal Guards, 1950’s style live music, a speciality market, a Union Jack globe and a bubble workshop!

 

Beer Festival in Ossett Town Hall

Ossett Town Hall will once again welcome its famous Beer Festival on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 June from 7–11pm. Various beers, and ciders will be available, with alternatives for non ale drinkers. Bar snacks can be purchased from Cinta in the town hall. During the day on Saturday, a Beer Cart Procession will begin from 10.30am with Morris dancing in the town centre from 11am plus rides, food & craft market from 10am-4pm.
