What’s On in Calderdale This October Half Term

Enjoy a two day event by the co-creator of award-winning TV show, ‘Mr. Bloom’s Nursery’, the Festival of Words, a Pumpkin Festival, Continental Market, Silent Disco, Halloween Trails, Craft Workshops and more this half term in Calderdale!

 

Bankfield Museum: (Open Tuesday to Saturday). visit the Duke of Wellington’s Regimental Museum (go and see the Duke of Wellington’s wellington boots!), see the actual blade for the fearsome Halifax gibbet and enjoy new exhibitions ‘Woodland Paths and Grand Days Out’, featuring the over 50 new works by the popular local artist Kate Lycett and ‘Belonging: Fashion and A Sense of Place’, exploring the influence of the West Riding of Yorkshire on contemporary fashion and bringing together works from a range of fashion designers and creatives who have been inspired by the many elements that make our area unique! Calderdale Industrial Museum: is open over half term on Saturdays and Thursday 10am to 4pm. Last entry 3pm. Cost: £5 per adult. Concessions £4. Accompanied children enter free.

Halifax Festival of Words: Friday 22nd – Sunday 24th October: Readings, live music, spoken word and DJ sets across five Halifax venues. Click here for more details.

Hebden Bridge Pumpkin Festival Saturday 23rd – Sunday 24th October. Follow the pumpkin trail around Hebden Bridge as they lead you from climate emergency to hope and prosperity through the green revolution. Wednesday 27th October

Let’s Grow Halifax! Wednesday 27th – Thursday 28th October NEW from the co-creator of the award-winning TV show, ‘Mr. Bloom’s Nursery’ – ‘Let’s Grow’ is coming to the heart of Halifax this half term, transforming spaces in its historic Borough Market. The ‘Let’s Grow’ pop-up Allotment is free to explore, with its charming family of baby fruits and vegetables to meet, along with their friendly Vegetable Nannies. There’ll be street art games to play, make & take family workshops, a treasure trail to follow and you can even help urban street artists to transform some unused market stalls into giant pieces of art! Thursday 28th October

Continental Market: Thursday 28th – Sunday 31st October. A SPOOKTACULAR selection of global traders come to Halifax town centre for a fantastic 4-day Continental Market.  You’ll be FRIGHTENED for choice with a wide variety of tasty treats and unique crafts and gifts from all over the world! (Thursday, Friday & Saturday 9am – 6pm Sunday 10am to 5pm).

Spooky Woven Wall Hanging Craft Workshop at the Piece Hall:11am – 2pm.  Make a spooky woven wall hanging ready for Halloween. No need to book just turn up! Cost £3. Click here for more details.

Silent Disco at The Woolshops 11am – 3pm. Bust a move and have a groove. Fun for all ages! You can also visit a glitter tattoo artist and take part in a trail around the Woolshops to win prizes. Click here for more details.

Trick or Treat trail at the Piece Hall: Friday 29th – Sunday 31st October 10am – 3.30pm Wear your scariest fancy dress and trick or treat around the shops for some sweet treats with Halloween bags and a trail map. Halloween Family Fun in Brighouse: 11am – 2pm. Live actors, face painting, selfie boards, a pumpkin display and tasty treats at the Canal Side Parklets just off Bethel Street car park.

Sunday 31st October

Dean Clough: On Sunday 31st October 11am -3pm you can join award-winning illustrator Chris Mould and fellow Dean Clough artist Jeffrey Andrews for a family spooky drawing and handmade book activity at 11am or 2pm in the Crossley gallery, Dean Clough. Place are limited. Cost £5 per person and need to be booked in advance by emailing info@puppetman.net  You can also just turn up and enjoy Halloween mask making, pumpkin sculpture fun, a lucky dip and cake!
