Calderdale Heritage Walks is an organisation which provides a varied programme of guided walks exploring the heritage of Calderdale all year round. There are now 12 Guides in the group. All are passionate about local Heritage and undertake considerable research for the walks they lead.

The majority of these walks are centred on towns and villages, but some have a more rural feel exploring the old lanes, paths and settlements of our extensive countryside. Almost all walks take place on Sundays and cost £4 per person.

Each season they include new walks so that there are always things to interest even patrons of several years standing. The standard walks last 2 to 2¼ hours, and are fairly easy walking. ‘Extended’ walks last 2½ to 3 hours and some of those use rural paths and are harder walking. The majority of walks are not really suited to those under thirteen.
Most start points are accessible by public transport and our standard walks always go ahead, whatever the weather. If one person turns up – the walk is on!

They run a Summer and Winter Walks programme, details of which can be found on their website.

Previous walking tours have included…

Suffragettes and Slaves – a four hour walk from Skircoat Green across Savile Park, visiting the homes of Halifax’s own nest of suffragettes.

What Anne Lister Inherited and What she Bequeathed – a short walk round the Shibden estate nearest the Hall.

Heptonstall Town – a  stroll around the buildings and historic townscape of the upper valley’s mother settlement.

For many walks there’s no need to book, just turn up and pay on the day.  However others do need booking through TicketSource – https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/calderdale-heritage-walks. If you need help with this, please call at Halifax Information Hub, Woolshops, near the Piece Hall.
