Pennine Heritage is the heritage organisation that runs the Birchcliffe Centre in Hebden Bridge. Based in a Grade-II listed former Baptist chapel, Pennine Heritage are committed to protecting and celebrating the heritage of the upper-Calder Valley. We are home to the South Pennine Archives, which holds the Alice Longstaff Collection as well as the collections of the Hebden Bridge Local History Society. We work to use our resources to create exhibitions, events and educational sessions to make our history and heritage as accessible as possible.
We are an event space that caters to different needs. Our hall has an upper capacity of 350 and is available to book for large events such as weddings or music events. We also have a studio space which is often used by yoga and meditation groups, as well as a smaller mezzanine area of our hall that can be booked separately. All spaces come with the ability to book additional kitchen facilities.
We are also home to a number of small businesses and tenants, ranging from larger operations like IOU Theatre who run the Hebden Bridge Hostel, and the Hebden Bridge Learning Community, to smaller independent traders and practitioners such as artists, architects and physical and mental health practitioners among others.
The Birchcliffe Centre is on Birchcliffe Road between Chapel Avenue and Sandy Gate. It is a five-minute walk from Hebden Bridge town centre, or you can take the 595 bus route from Hebden Bridge Train Station. There is also on-site parking.
Accessibility Information
Step-free access to the hall is available from the lower car park. Step-free access to the rest of the building is from Chapel Avenue. Given the natures of the building there are some small parts that unfortunately are not accessible. There are accessible toilets in the upper and lower parts of the building.
