The Pennine Way and The Calderdale Way are close by and you’ll find an abundance of other footpaths, bridleways and packhorse trails to explore. Despite the quiet, rural location, YHA Mankinholes is within easy reach of other attractions should the weather prove inclement. Eureka!, the National Children’s Museum in Halifax, Shibden Estate, The Piece Hall, Bankfield Museum, Haworth, The Keighley & Worth Valley Steam Railway and Hollingworth Lake & Activity Centre are all nearby. YHA Mankinholes offers 8 bedrooms, each with a number of bunkbeds. Each bunkbed sleeps two people.

Steeped in history, the Pennine Way National Trail chases along the mountain tops along the rugged backbone of England and offers 268 miles of the finest upland walking in England. A once in a lifetime experience.
The Pennine Way enters Calderdale at Blackstone Edge, passing Stoodley Pike, dropping down into the valley at Callis, climbing back up to Colden and over the moors to Widdop. Walkers often say this stretch of over 20 miles is one of the best on the whole route. The Trail is very well way-marked and there are some great views from the route (especially from the iconic Stoodley Pike).
If you want to detour into Hebden Bridge on your way, you can use the Hebden Bridge Loop developed in 2015.

Based above Todmorden in the North West of England, we have facilities and on-site equipment for both members and visitors. The Observatory is open to the public every Saturday evening from 7.30pm until late throughout the year. During the Summer months of June, July and August, we are also open afternoons from 3pm till 6pm ( except Sundays) for solar viewing and demonstration of the Camera Obscura. Visitors are advised to wrap up warmly, with sensible footwear, as the site can get very cold at any time of year and bring a torch to help find the way. There is no formal charge for visitors, but a small donation would be appreciated ( we suggest £2 per person, £1 for children and concessions), though further donations are always welcome! Group visits can also be made at other times by arrangement. Please park on the lower plateau, next to the caravans. Access for unloading of telescopes etc. and disabled parking is available at the highest point of the site, next to the main dome. Individual membership of the Centre is £15 per year and £30 per year for a family membership. Membership permits the use of the Centre's equipment as appropriate, unlimited technical and instructional advice, access to the members level of the website, the library and priority entrance to special events. If you live a distance away from the centre why not become a `friend of the Astronomy Centre ` for £5.00 per year.

It is a listed building with some historical and architectural interest, lying in the Pennine hills between Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. Many walks can be made from the cottage. The Pennine and Calderdale Ways, on which lies Stoodley Pike, traverse the ridge of hills behind the property and the Rochdale/Leeds Canal with towpath walks runs through the valley beneath. Todmorden with its shops and market is two miles away and can be reached by bus. Hebden Bridge, Howarth and the Bronte country, the Worth Valley Steam Railway, Halifax with the Piece Hall, the Eureka Museum and theatres are all within easy reach.
