Preview evening 26th April 2018, 6pm - 9pm Exhibition 27th April to 1st July 2018 An exhibition of new work by Kate Lycett at Heart Gallery in Hebden Bridge. Everyone welcome. Kate Lycett lives in Hebden Bridge and calls this quirky and popular Northern town home now. She is a resident artist at Heart Gallery on Market Street and has exhibited there successfully since 2012 so now has a huge following and collectors of her original paintings and hand finished prints. Her textile design background is always present in the way that she paints, and interprets what is around her. She sees patterns in everything; the hills adorned with houses and washing lines, rows of flower pots and stripes of brightly painted drain pipes. Lines of gold thread trace the lines through the landscape, and gold leaf changes the surface of her pictures with the changing light of day. She wants to paint beautiful pictures of the places that she loves; and what’s not to love about Hebden Bridge and the surrounding hills she now escapes to with her running buddies to find a bit of ‘me’ time? Craggs & Fells exhibition at Heart Gallery has been inspired by Kate’s love of the countryside around Hebden Bridge and her hours spent fell running in all weathers over the last few years. “In a busy house where everyone likes to talk at once, I sometimes run just to be still. Through the bogs and bracken, in the sunshine and the snow, I’ll play out on the hills. Within a few minutes a hill will turn from black to gold, and then disappear altogether behind an on-coming squall.” From Hell Hole Rocks down to Mytholm Steeps, Swillington Farm to Stoodley Pike and Gibson Mill to Shackleton Knoll, Kate’s got it covered so prepare yourself for a fabulous journey around Hebden Bridge through the seasons that we love so much and make our valley one of the most beautiful in Yorkshire

Jamie Frost MRBS is a sculptor and draughtsman who grew up in Yorkshire’s ‘sculpture triangle’. Noted for his porrtaiture and figurative drawings, he is an award-winning artist who has exhibited internationally and across the UK. He often takes great pains to use iterative processes that create tightly corporeal forms, holding the viewer's attention. This intensity eventually succumbs to the 'wood-ness' or 'ink-ness' of the media in energetic and dramatic strokes, splinters, cuts, washes. Working with live models, he takes inspiration from classical sculpture, cinema, Butoh theatre or possibly a gesture made in his company. Whilst the works rarely have an explicit narrative, they develop with a strong sense of emotional content, reflecting shared human experiences. The processes employed are often slow. This allows Jamie to consider a work’s impact and carefully ‘tune’ the pose, stature, gesture and expressions to these ends. Please note: the Gallery is open Thursday-Sunday, 12.00-3.00

A historic site rich in Methodist history, Mount Zion Methodist Heritage Chapel offers you the chance to explore a beautiful heritage building and enjoy tea and biscuits in Spring and a cream tea in the summer months!

The Chapel is open to the public between April and September every Tuesday between 2pm-4pm. Light refreshments in the form of a cuppa and biscuits are available for a small donation. On the Tuesdays in June, July and August Yorkshire Cream Teas are also available, with homemade scones baked fresh that day, homemade jam (which is sometimes also available for sale), butter and freshly whipped cream. The cream teas come with unlimited tea or coffee (speciality teas and cordials are also available) for only £4 per person.

There will be a short service at 2pm on 26th June, 31st July and 28th August.

Mount Zion has a unique part in the history of Methodism, with John Wesley staying in the cottage (in the room now known as The Prophet's Chamber) adjoining the Chapel, when he was travelling between preaching appointments in the 1700's. Mount Zion is home to the world-renowned Horace Hird Methodist Pottery Collection - come and see the many interesting pieces that comprise our collection.

Free Wi-Fi is available during your visit. Guided tours can be arranged on request outside of our usual April-September opening times.

We also hold various artistic exhibitions, occasional musical concerts and open days throughout the year, with musical accompaniment, occasional local historical and Methodist history talks and refreshments.

Please see our website and Facebook page for details. You can email us at mountzionheritage@gmail.com.

Parking is limited on Per Lane, so if you visit us by car, please park safely and considerately on the roadside. There is a regular 504 bus service to Denholme from Halifax, that goes along the A629, allowing you to get off at the bus stop at the top of Per Lane. Mount Zion Chapel is only a 200 metre walk along Per Lane from the A629 Keighley Road.

Please take care when using the flagged path approaching the Chapel. The flags are uneven and can be slippery when wet.
