Showcasing Calderdale Museums’ fashion and textile collections from ancient Egypt to modern day. Calderdale Museums has one of the best but little known textile collections in the country. There are 17,000 objects, collected from all over the world. The collection began when the museum first opened in 1887. It represents the influence of world textiles on local production as well as how local textiles have been exported around and influenced the world. The collection includes significant objects from Ancient Egypt, The Balkans, China, Japan and the Indian Subcontinent. A range of English embroidery, samplers, costume, court dress, military uniforms, pattern books from West Yorkshire manufacturers and the design archive of Crossley’s Carpets. It represents not just textiles but textile production from spindles to spinning wheels, cards, combs and looms. The new fashion gallery will tell both the story of the production and manufacture of textiles in the local area and how those textiles were then used. This new gallery replaces the 'For King and Country' exhibition on the top floor at Bankfield. 2019 will also see a range of related talks, tours and events. FREE admission.

Halifax artist David Smith opens his new exhibition at the Harrison Lord Gallery in Brighouse on Saturday 23rd November. David, a well-established local artist, has created a new style of work for the show. It is inspired by the great LS Lowry, famous for his stick men and mill scenes. David grew up living across the road from busy factories. "As a child I witnessed the ending of the industrial era. Before cameras were as common as they are nowadays, I chose to record my surroundings with paint. The paintings in this exhibition are my memories of that time.” However, they are not mere copies of Lowry’s work. Although inspired by the same subjects David has developed his own style. "Of course, L S Lowry casts his great shadow over everything northern and I think my work gives a very respectful nod to the work of that great man." David Smith will be in the gallery on Saturday November 23rd, 11.30am to 3pm so pop in and have a chat. The exhibition runs for two weeks at the Harrison Lord Gallery, 5 Bradford Rd, Brighouse and is free to enter.

7pm Sunday 8 December is the return of the regular evening of Stand-Up at Hebden Bridge Little Theatre.

MC Matt Fong will be joined by Sam Gore, Becky Heaviside, Tom Little and Steve Day.

Matt’s debut solo show at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, was picked as one of the best shows in Edinburgh, so we’re excited to see him in Hebden Bridge. Newer Act Becky Heaviside will perform alongside prolific writer and performer, Sam Gore. Sam cemented his position as one of the best new comedians of his generation with five New Act of the Year awards, including the national Laughing Horse competition. With his rapid-fire delivery and unique use of language and imagery, nobody writes a simile quite like Gore.

‘Inventive, unexpected and often very silly… ‘Tom Little ….’surely can’t remain a hidden treasure for long.’ - Chortle. This is your chance to see him at the intimate Hebden Bridge Little Theatre. Closing the show, we’ve got Steve Day. Britain’s only deaf comedian - well if there are any others, he hasn't heard. A familiar voice on Radio 4, for the past fourteen years Steve has been performing to huge laughter around the country (well they tell him the laughter was huge to humour him, he doesn't know either way).

Doors open at 7pm for this show at Hebden Bridge Little Theatre, and starts at 8pm. Tickets cost £14.
