    A new exhibition capturing a century of Brighouse, West Yorkshire on canvas and camera, featuring paintings and photographs from Calderdale Museums’ collections, including works by local Brighouse artists Miles Sharp and Stanley Chapman. These works are displayed alongside newly produced photographs by the Halifax Photographic Society, who have recreated scenes from historic artworks of Brighouse to bring up to date the story of everyday life and ongoing change in the town. This exhibition runs from Saturday 19th October 2019 until Monday 20th April 2020 .     English Barn Dances are easy, enjoyable and excellent exercise; the dance caller will talk you through the moves before and during the dance and help is usually to hand from our helpful regulars.

    Admission costs £9 for adults, children 12 years and under are free (as long as they are accompanied by an adult) and anyone over 13 years in full-time education is £5.

    December 14th 2019: Ryburn 3 Step Barn Dance with caller Rosie Bryce and music from The Barley Cote. NB Please note that the December Barn dance takes place at Victoria Hall, 212 Halifax Road, Ripponden HX6 4BG

    Come and join us for The Victoria Theatre's spectacular family pantomime for 2019 Beauty and the Beast.

    This production has all the ingredients for a magical trip to the theatre, with hilarious slapstick humour, plenty of audience interaction, not to mention some fabulous song and dance routines that will delight audiences of all ages.

    For this integrated performance, the British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters will be involved in the action on stage and take part in the performances!

    This performance is designed to be welcoming to everyone, and especially to adults and children who may feel unable to access theatre performances for a variety of reasons, for example: parents/carers with noisy infants, people who need or want to move around and/or vocalise during the performance, people with dementia, autism or with other complex access and inclusion needs.

    The Long Company Mummers are an established team of players who delight audiences at pubs around Calderdale each New Year with their unique and mysterious play. The venues for the plays in 2020 are: Thursday January 2nd 2020 The Golden Lion, Todmorden OL14 6LZ Friday January 3rd 2020 The Fleece, Westgate, Elland, HX5 0BB Sunday January 5th 2020 The Hogs Head, Stanley Street, Sowerby Bridge. HX6 2AH Monday January 6th 2020 The Old Bridge Inn, Priest Lane, Ripponden The play starts at 8pm and lasts about 30 minutes. There is no charge to watch the play but any donations will be gratefully received and passed to a local charity . (What is it?) Supported by a band of musicians, the players (King Christmas, Prince of Paradine, St George, Common Jack, The Doctor and Beelzebub) arrive from the dark, clad in fantastic, ragged costumes and tall masks that disguise their identity. They deliver their seasonal play by lantern light outside the pub and then slowly disappear back into the night. Each performance is followed by a music session inside the pub, featuring songs, tunes and seasonal novelties performed by the assembled company, to which the audience is invited to contribute. RIPCORD by David Lindsay-Abaire When a dispute erupts between two women forced to share a room in a care home, their conflict escalates alarmingly as they each try to provoke the other with more and more extreme experiences and practical jokes. The play has a number of bizarre locations which, while offering both hilarious and touching episodes, may make the audience scared or alarmed – which is exactly what the central characters are trying to do to one another!
