    7.30pm Halifax Chamber Choir is giving a concert in St. Jude’s Parish Church, Free School Lane, Halifax on Saturday 25th January at 7.30pm. The programme, Gems of European Sacred Music, features music by Monteverdi, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Bruckner and Faure including Faure’s well-known Cantique de Jean Racine, Monteverdi’s Beatus Vir and Cesar Franck’s Panis Angelicus. Halifax Chamber Choir, formerly known as Halifax Madrigal Society, has been performing in Halifax over 120 years. Since 2015 the choir has been directed by Aljosa Skorja (Josh), young Slovenian conductor and musicologist and winner of the London Classical Soloists’ 2015 Conducting Competition. For this concert the choir is accompanied by the organist Professor David Baker, Director of the Halifax Organ Academy and tutor with the RCO/St Giles International Organ School. Admission at the door is £10, concessions £8 and full-time students £1

    With Ann Walker now living at Shibden, Anne Lister began to realize her coal-mining ambitions. This walk passes by the moss house where her determined courtship began. It climbs steadily up Pump Lane, then curves round by Walker Pit - sunk in 1835 and named in honour of Ann. By 1836 Anne Lister's aggrandisement of Shibden's magnificent grounds could begin to take shape. Walk leader: Jill Liddington. A 2½ hour circular afternoon walk, with one steep ascent, ending with tea, cake & Q&A. Meet at 2pm outside Meerside Café, HX3 6XG. Dogs on leads welcome.

    11.30am A 4-hour walk from Halifax climbing slowly up Old Bank to Shibden, to recreate Anne Lister's estate in 1832 - when she returned home from her travels, betrayed by yet one more woman's marriage plans. Then re-acquaintance with neighbouring heiress Ann Walker changed her life - forever. Anne Lister deployed all her considerable skills to enthral and seduce this wealthy young woman - all out of sight of Halifax's prying eyes. Walk leaders: Jill Liddington & Steve Crabtree. Walking boots/shoes advised, and bring packed lunch/snacks. The walk includes short readings from Nature's Domain, and ends with tea, cake and Q&A. Bus back to Halifax. Meet at 11.30 in the Piece Hall by the Book Corner. HX1 1RE

    10am - 8pm Shibden will be staying open until 8pm on Anne Lister's birthday, Friday 3rd April 2020. Anne was born on the 3rd April 1791 and to celebrate there will be tea and birthday cake and a celebratory atmosphere with staff and volunteers on hand to talk all things Anne Lister. Dressing up is most definitely encouraged! (More details to follow in early 2020) The usual admission fees apply. There are no advance bookings, just turn up on the day.

    When John Walker died in Naples in 1830 on his honeymoon, his sisters Elizabeth & Ann inherited a large estate in Lightcliffe and became very wealthy. Within two years Ann had become the companion of Anne Lister. We walk round part of the estate, viewing Cliffe Hill House and the site of Crow Nest Mansion where Ann lived. We finish in the churchyard where she is buried together with other members of her family, employees and tenants (including the one not eaten by a pig). This is a 2 hour circular walk, mainly on pavements with just a short walk across a footpath. Dogs on leads welcome. Walk leader: Ian Philp Meet by the tower in the churchyard at 2pm. HX3 8TH

Hear anecdotes of a quirky people who lived there in Anne's time, and see the former Stag's Head Inn where she collected rents. What happened in the great flood of 1837? Just some of the tasty treats which will be drawing in visitors include Greek delicacy including Gyros, Souvlaki, and Greek pies, a Traditional German Schwenkgrill selling Bratwurst and Currywurst, mouth-watering French crepes and Galettes, Catalan cuisine Tapas and Paella; Pofitjes, the famous Dutch mini pancakes and even Ostrich and Kangaroo burgers so hop along and try some of the great street foods on offer. Wander amongst the wonderful aromas, sights and sounds of a true International Market. As well as International street food there will be some great fresh foods on sale including olives, baklava, dried fruit and nuts. If you're after something sweet, the French Patisserie is a must, offering the finest pastries that are perfect as a treat - after all the burgers, sausages, pancakes, ice cream and freshly baked Macaroons….     A focus on the changing landscape of the Shibden Hall Estate at the time of Anne Lister. A short circular walk. Starts part way up Cunnery Lane to find out about the cottages, farms and tenants at the north side of the hall. It then turns through the woodland and emerges from the hidden tunnel to the front of the hall. Here we find out about the constant problems of security and changes Anne made to add to the privacy of her expanding estate. Looking down, the Lister mining activities at Mytholm can be seen and explained with a conclusion at Shibden Lake, where we find out about the changes and properties in this part of the parkland. Walk Leader: Mike Beecham. Meet at 2pm at Shibden Hall overflow car park immediately after the Godley Lane entrance, HX3 6XG. Some tracks and damp areas of ground, walking footwear preferable. A disabled person could be helped in navigating this route, however there are some steep parts.
