    An exclusive chance to see some of the costumes designed by Tom Pye for Sally Wainwright’s TV series Gentleman Jack. The series about the life of Anne Lister, was filmed largely at her home of Shibden Hall, managed by Calderdale Museums Service. On display at Bankfield Museum are a number of the costumes and props from the series, worn and used by actors including Suranne Jones and Sophie Rundle. At Bankfield you can also see original clothing from the period of Gentleman Jack in the new Fashion Gallery on the top floor. The costumes have been kindly loaned for display by Lookout Point Productions with assistance from designer Tom Pye. FREE admission. Friday 12th July 2019 until Saturday 26th October 2019.

    A four hour walk from Halifax climbing slowly up Old Bank to Shibden, to recreate Anne Lister's estate in 1832. On 7th May, she returned home from her travels despondent, betrayed by yet one more woman's marriage plans. Then reacquaintance with neighbouring heiress Ann Walker of Lightcliffe changed her life forever. Anne Lister deployed all her considerable skills to enthral and seduce this wealthy young woman - all out of sight of Halifax's prying eyes. Meet Jill Liddington at 11.30am - details of meeting place will be given when tickets are booked. Walking boots/shoes are advised, and bring packed lunch/snacks. The walk includes short readings from Nature's Domain, and ends at 3.30 pm with Q&A plus tea and cake at the Meerside Cafe. Bus back to Halifax. So this is a linear walk. PRE-BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL and it will not be possible to just turn up on the day. This walk is £4 per head. PRE-BOOKING ARRANGEMENTS Halifax Visitor Centre, The Piece Hall, Halifax HX1 1RE.     A two hour walk, recreating the town that Anne Lister knew so well in 1832. She used Halifax for certain key functions: business transactions with her lawyer, shopping and catching up on political news, plus visits to the homes of the few families she saw as social equals. The walk includes short readings from Nature's Domain and ends at 4:30pm with questions and answers plus tea and biscuits. Timing and meeting point details are issued with the tickets.
