    Hello and welcome to Robertshaw’s Farm Shop! We are a family owned business based in Thornton, led by owner James Robertshaw. The Robertshaw’s story begins in 1929, when James’s grandfather Harry opened his butchers’ shop in Halifax. James father Andrew Robertshaw would always be at the butchers shop helping his dad out and, in the mid 60’s, he began selling potatoes and vegetables at the side of the road (where our farm shop stands now). In 1974 Andrew Robertshaw opened The Farm shop as a standalone business. James was born and raised at The Farm Shop, working and helping customers from a young age. In 1987, a butchery was added to the shop, and the rest is history. We’re third generation farmers and butchers. The shop is situated on our working sheep farm and we produce our own prime lambs. We rear over 200 breeding ewes and produce just over 350 lambs a year. The lambs we raise on the farm are sold in the shop by our team of 30 butchers who have over 200 years of experience between them, meaning nothing goes to waste, and our customers benefit from fresh, quality meat. We also have great relationships with local farmers, and buy the best quality meat in Yorkshire auction marts. Owner James visits at least three auctions a week, often buying prize winning beasts. We are proactive in using renewable forms of energy available to us and minimising our impact on the environment. We have our own wind turbines on the farm, and a recycling scheme in place for every single item of waste from the farm. We bale cardboard and plastic for recycling and all our fruit and veg is fed back to the animals, meaning nothing goes into landfill. This years we’ll be looking into improving our packaging. Over the next couple of years we are planning to put in a café, extend our Animal Croft, bring more homemade products to our ranges, and lots more… We hope to see you in the shop soon.     Showcasing Calderdale Museums’ fashion and textile collections from ancient Egypt to modern day. Calderdale Museums has one of the best but little known textile collections in the country. There are 17,000 objects, collected from all over the world. The collection began when the museum first opened in 1887. It represents the influence of world textiles on local production as well as how local textiles have been exported around and influenced the world. The collection includes significant objects from Ancient Egypt, The Balkans, China, Japan and the Indian Subcontinent. A range of English embroidery, samplers, costume, court dress, military uniforms, pattern books from West Yorkshire manufacturers and the design archive of Crossley’s Carpets. It represents not just textiles but textile production from spindles to spinning wheels, cards, combs and looms. The new fashion gallery will tell both the story of the production and manufacture of textiles in the local area and how those textiles were then used. This new gallery replaces the 'For King and Country' exhibition on the top floor at Bankfield. 2019 will also see a range of related talks, tours and events. FREE admission.

    Kids visiting the award-winning Halifax attraction will be treated to vibrant visual effects and stunning sounds thanks to cutting-edge design and technology, including giant motion-tracking projections capturing children’s movements as they interact with what they see.

    This features in the exhibition alongside touch-triggered 3D shapes and luminous touch-sensitive pillars of light.

    A visit to Digital Dimensions, housed in Eureka!’s ground-floor Spark Gallery, will allow families to:

    • Test memories and coordination in a game against a series of 3D musical cubes – working together to remember patterns to trigger sounds and a colourful chain reaction!
    • Weave their way through luminous touch-sensitive colour-changing pillars of light - find the master pole to reset the colours
    • Step into a colourful motion-capture tunnel of with astounding visual effects
    • Open some truly magical doors to a series of digital dimensions.

    Digital Dimensions has been created by first year students studying for a BA (Hons) in Live Visual Design & Production at Backstage Academy, based at Wakefield’s Production Park, a community of live events businesses behind the staging of Beyoncé & Jay-Z and Take That arena tours.

    Digital Dimensions is included in the price of admission, or free to Eureka! Annual Pass holders.

    September 2019 is the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War. Calderdale was directly affected: men and women were conscripted for military and industrial service; industry was placed on a war footing and many workers took on Civil Defence and Home Guard duties. The area did not escape unscathed, there were 11 bombing incidents recorded and 11 people were killed. On 24 December 1944 a German V1 Flying Bomb (commonly known as ‘Doodlebugs’) landed in a field at Little Tooting Farm, Hubberton, Sowerby. Extensive blast damage made the farmhouse uninhabitable for some time and broke windows a mile away. The farmhouse occupants received cuts from broken glass. The photograph shows the Auxiliary Fire Service team, which attended the incident, along with the police and ambulance service. FREE admission. The exhibition runs from Saturday 8th June to Saturday 30th November 2019 .

    An exclusive chance to see some of the costumes designed by Tom Pye for Sally Wainwright’s TV series Gentleman Jack. The series about the life of Anne Lister, was filmed largely at her home of Shibden Hall, managed by Calderdale Museums Service. On display at Bankfield Museum are a number of the costumes and props from the series, worn and used by actors including Suranne Jones and Sophie Rundle. At Bankfield you can also see original clothing from the period of Gentleman Jack in the new Fashion Gallery on the top floor. The costumes have been kindly loaned for display by Lookout Point Productions with assistance from designer Tom Pye. FREE admission. Friday 12th July 2019 until Monday 23rd December 2019

    A new exhibition capturing a century of Brighouse, West Yorkshire on canvas and camera, featuring paintings and photographs from Calderdale Museums’ collections, including works by local Brighouse artists Miles Sharp and Stanley Chapman. These works are displayed alongside newly produced photographs by the Halifax Photographic Society, who have recreated scenes from historic artworks of Brighouse to bring up to date the story of everyday life and ongoing change in the town. This exhibition runs from Saturday 19th October 2019 until Monday 20th April 2020 .     11am - 8pm This year's Haliifax Christmas Lights Switch On is set to be bigger and better than ever before! A fun and festive event for all the family, expect plenty of music and merriment with comperes Danny and Rosie from Pulse Radio and local acts including a performance by Halifax vocalist Callum Butterworth from the hit BBC show, The Voice. All this entertainment leads nicely up to the lights being switched opn ay 4.30pm, you'll see the stunning new ‘chocolate’ lights, part funded by Quality Street (practise your catching – there might be an edible giveaway or two!). Immediately after the switch-on, Bulsara and his Queenies will rock you with their amazing Queen renditions. Expect a brilliant performance from the guys who wowed crowds at this year’s official Freddie Mercury Birthday Party in Montreaux. It’s going to be so big we’ve moved it to George Square to accommodate the crowds, and we’ve also stretched it out for more of the day, to fit in all the fabulous acts and activities.
