    A new exhibition capturing a century of Brighouse, West Yorkshire on canvas and camera, featuring paintings and photographs from Calderdale Museums’ collections, including works by local Brighouse artists Miles Sharp and Stanley Chapman. These works are displayed alongside newly produced photographs by the Halifax Photographic Society, who have recreated scenes from historic artworks of Brighouse to bring up to date the story of everyday life and ongoing change in the town. This exhibition runs from Saturday 19th October 2019 until Monday 20th April 2020 . It climbs steadily up Pump Lane, then curves round by Walker Pit - sunk in 1835 and named in honour of Ann. By 1836 Anne Lister's aggrandisement of Shibden's magnificent grounds could begin to take shape. Walk leader: Jill Liddington. A 2½ hour circular afternoon walk, with one steep ascent, ending with tea, cake & Q&A. Meet at 2pm outside Meerside Café, HX3 6XG. Dogs on leads welcome.

    25th - 30th May 2020 Set in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside that inspired the Bronte sisters and Ted Hughes, the Pennine Spring Music Festival brings together instrumentalists and singers from all over Britain for a week of convivial music-making and performing. For the first time in 2020, we are also hosting the Pennine Fringe’- two events that will take place in the village pubs. Thursday 28th May - ‘The gypsy in my soul’ 10pm in the White Lion Pub A fun mixture of light opera, klezmer and more Saturday 30th May - ‘Nostalgia’ 4pm at the Cross Inn Pub A performance of the best loved romantic songs . These events are hosted by David Owen Lewis and friends and admission to both events will be free with a retiring collection.
