Meet at 2pm opposite the Town Hall pediment on Halifax Road, OL14 5AQ Todmorden Town Hall straddles the Walsden Water and was situated in both Lancashire and Yorkshire until the county boundary was moved on January 1st 1888. Designed by John Gibson of Westminster, this Grade 1 listed building holds a strong place in the hearts of local people. Most iconic, from the outside, is the pediment. The carved stonework has two central female figures on a pedestal. The one on the left represents Lancashire (cotton spinning industry) and the one on the right Yorkshire (engineering and agriculture). Below the two figures are different friezes of the industries coming together to prosper on the border. Inside the building there is an old Magistrate’s Court which now serves as the Todmorden Town Council Chamber. The ballroom upstairs spans the length of the building and holds many memories for those who have attended the variety of events held in the Town Hall for over 140 years.

Stunning choreography, sumptuous costumes and wonderful sets form the fantasy world in which the Lilac Fairy struggles against the evil Carabosse. Outline based on the fairy-tale by Charles Perrault, the Sleeping Beauty tells of the Princess Aurora, cursed at her christening by the evil Carabosse to prick her finger one day on a spindle and die. Thanks to the timely intervention of the Lilac Fairy, she doesn’t die, but sleeps for a hundred years. Woken by a prince, who has battled through the Enchanted Forest to reach her, they marry at a ceremony attended by nursery rhyme characters like Puss in Boots and all the other forest creatures. There are no scores more successful in supporting the full range of ballet than those by Tchaikovsky. Highlights include the Famous ‘Rose Adagio’ when Princess Aurora is introduced to four Princes. This ravishing production of the Sleeping Beauty is certain to leave you refreshed, relaxed and alert. It shimmers like an exquisite dream. The Sleeping Beauty is also a ballet that all can enjoy, even the very young. Tickets from: £38.75

One hundred and thirty-five years ago audiences heard Swan Lake by the great Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky for the very first time. From that moment on, the world of ballet would never be the same. Swan Lake is a tale of two young women, Odette and Odile, who resemble each other so strikingly that one can easily be mistaken for the other. It is the compelling legend of a tragic romance in which a princess, Odette, is turned into a swan by an evil curse. Prince Siegfried chances upon a flock of swans while out hunting. When one of the swans turns into a beautiful young woman he is instantly captivated – will his love prove strong enough to break the evil spell that she is under? From the opulent splendour of the palace ballroom to the moonlit lake where majestic swans glide in perfect formation, this compelling tale of tragic romance has it all. Swan Lake captures, like no other ballet, the full range of human emotions – from hope to despair, from terror to tenderness, from melancholy to ecstasy. A wonderful evening out, the memories of which you will cherish long after the final curtain falls. Ticket holders are invited to join us in the auditorium from 6:45pm for a pre-show Swan Lake talk. Tickets from £38.75
