Three spacious, newly converted cottages in Cragg Vale near Hebden Bridge, perfect for couples, families, walkers and cyclists. If you're looking for a relaxing short stay or a base for more energetic activities - we are perfect for you. Set in Cragg Vale, an area of outstanding natural beauty near Hebden Bridge, our old stone building which previously housed tractors and forestry equipment, has been transformed into three quality holiday cottages. The elevated position in a steep-sided wooded valley affords the cottages with fabulous moor and woodland views. Although ""Cragg"" as it is known locally, is secluded and peaceful, it is also a central location for visiting Yorkshire and Lancashire with road and direct rail links to Leeds and Manchester nearby. 300yds from the Calderdale Way and with numerous local walks, the cottages are ideal for people looking to explore the local countryside. With direct access onto the longest continuous incline in England, cyclists can relish the challenge of riding this difficult route up onto the heather clad moors. Mountain bikers have their own set of demanding routes and this area is considered ""A Nexus for mountain bikers"" (Everyday Cycling Magazine). The local moorland golf course offers some majestic views. The local bus ""The Cragg Flyer"" stops just outside the cottages for journeys to Mytholmroyd (2miles), Hebden Bridge (4miles) or just down the road to a true local pub 'The Robin Hood'. The Hinchliffe Arms country restaurant and bar is also within walking distance. We are Walker, Cyclist and Pet friendly.

The White Lion is a traditional pub, without television, juke box, gaming machines or WiFi. We serve real ales, real ciders and have a vast collection of Gin and Whisky, along with great home made food including many vegetarian and vegan dishes. The Calderdale Way walking route passes through Heptonstall, right past the pub. The oldest part of the building is at the rear of the present layout and dates back to the early 14th Century, at which time it faced the opposite way onto the Pack Horse route from Hebden Bridge to Nelson and Burnley. This ran along the rear of the present building. In the early 15th Century the new road was constructed and the old building was extended and the present frontage constructed facing the new road. Many of the buildings along Towngate and Smithwell Lane were constructed around this time, including the Cloth Hall, which was originally a single story building. The pub was frequented by the Cragg Coiners during the late 16th Century. We have a display of dies and coins in our dining room, which is certainly worth a visit.

Part of an ancient packhorse route, the Buttress offers a steep, cobbled ascent from the market town of Hebden Bridge to the village of Heptonstall, set atop the hillside hundreds of feet above Hebden Bridge. Although less than a mile in distance, the ascent is quite challenging due to its steep and cobbled nature. However, this does not deter dozens of enthusiastic cyclists from riding up to the top in the annual 'Up the Buttress' hill cycle challenge. The Buttress can also be tackled in a more leisurely fashion and is suitable for walking. Suitable footwear is recommended as the cobbles can be a little slippy when wet. The Buttress begins its ascent from Hebden Bridge just off Old Gate/ Royd Terrace. If you cross the Packhorse Bridge from Bridge Gate, then you will see the cobbles of the Buttress to you left. almost opposite Hangingroyd Lane on your right.
