    A new exhibition capturing a century of Brighouse, West Yorkshire on canvas and camera, featuring paintings and photographs from Calderdale Museums’ collections, including works by local Brighouse artists Miles Sharp and Stanley Chapman. These works are displayed alongside newly produced photographs by the Halifax Photographic Society, who have recreated scenes from historic artworks of Brighouse to bring up to date the story of everyday life and ongoing change in the town. This exhibition runs from Saturday 19th October 2019 until Monday 20th April 2020 .     The award-winning International Village Market will be returning to Halifax again with traders from around the globe set up along Corn Market, Russel Street & Southgate. Just some of the tasty treats which will be drawing in visitors include Greek delicacy including Gyros, Souvlaki, and Greek pies, a Traditional German Schwenkgrill selling Bratwurst and Currywurst, mouth-watering French crepes and Galettes, Catalan cuisine Tapas and Paella; Pofitjes, the famous Dutch mini pancakes and even Ostrich and Kangaroo burgers so hop along and try some of the great street foods on offer. Wander amongst the wonderful aromas, sights and sounds of a true International Market. As well as International street food there will be some great fresh foods on sale including olives, baklava, dried fruit and nuts. If you're after something sweet, the French Patisserie is a must, offering the finest pastries that are perfect as a treat - after all the burgers, sausages, pancakes, ice cream and freshly baked Macaroons…. But it’s not all about food as we have some great craft and gift stalls including some fantastic jewellery made from recycled silver cutlery; South American jewellery and knitwear, handmade amber, crystal and gemstone jewellery and of course the famous Dutch Market Garden where you can wander through a huge collection of shrubs, bulbs, beautiful plants and trees with some great garden ornaments. And if it all gets too much and you want to take a break sit and relax in our very own Continental Street Bar where you can try some great continental beers and wine.

    The iconic annual 1940’s weekend will once again return Saturday 6th June and Sunday 7th June and is expected to draw in massive crowds from across the region and beyond. Celebrating the war years Brighouse will host a feast of nostalgic music, entertainment, food and fashion. A collection of vintage vehicles will be on show alongside army vehicles. Brighouse will also host a wide range of wartime demonstrations such as re-enactors parade, living history displays and remembrance services. The hugely popular event will also see the largest vintage market yet. Dress code is optional but you're positively encouraged to come dressed-up 1940’s style! Events will be held across the town from 10am until 7pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

A combination of traditional viper jazz, raucous ragtime, and low down dirty acoustic blues… with some tango, Charleston and tin pan alley stuff thrown in. Taking inspiration from vaudeville and burlesque stars from the 1920’s and 1930’s like the legendary Frankie Half Pint Jaxon, medicine bands, jug acts and the rougher, rawer end of traditional New Orleans jazz such as Jelly Roll Morton’s Steamboat Four, with songs that celebrate drinkin’, dancin’and raisin’ hell, dragging vintage music screamin’ and kickin’ back into the speakeasys and juke joints where it belongs Sunday 7th June: DJ Ben & Kev Starting at 2pm – on our outdoor stage!     Gala day for the Halifax Charity Gala 2020 is Saturday 13th June, as always at Manor Heath Park! Fun for all the family at this charity gala, with floats, rides and stalls. Official opening 1pm Gates open 11am The Grand Procession sets off from Eureka at 11:30am and makes its way through the town centre and onto Manor Heath Park. Ticket prices are £2 in advance and £4 on the day. Advance tickets can be bought from the places listed on the website www.halifaxgala.org.uk.

    Gates open at 11.30am for Yorkshire’s biggest annual benefit concert which takes place right here in Calderdale. Since the first Brodstock in 2014 this award-winning, volunteer-run day has now raised over £100,000 for charity.

    Featuring over 10 hours of superb local musical talent as well as plenty for the kids to do it really is a great day out for the whole family. Plenty of bars, street food, stalls and dedicated areas for the little ones. Something for every age.

    In 2019 tickets sold out in less than an hour….. 3 months before the festival! Tickets go on sale in March and can only be purchased from the Old Brods rugby club. They are £15 each and all accompanied under 12s get free entry.

    This event is expected to sell out straight away so please don’t delay in getting your tickets. Only ticket holders will be able to gain entry on the day.

    The Sowerby Bridge Rushbearing Festival brings you a packed weekend of Rush-related tradition and tomfoolery!

    The Rushbearing Festival is the only one of its kind in Yorkshire. Over the course of the weekend, the festival sees the progress of the Rushbearing procession around seven towns and villages, visiting many churches and local hostelries along the way. the focal point of the procession is the sixteen feet high, two-wheeled handsomely decorated and thatched rushcart.

    A team of young ladies take turns to ride on top of the cart as it is pulled by sixty local men dressed in Panama hats, white shirts, black trousers and clogs. Accompanying them are a group of supporters in Edwardian dress along with some of the region's finest musicians and Morris dancing teams to provide entertainment for the crowds.

    By the nature of this event timings over the weekend may vary slightly!
