11am - 8pm This year's Haliifax Christmas Lights Switch On is set to be bigger and better than ever before! A fun and festive event for all the family, expect plenty of music and merriment with comperes Danny and Rosie from Pulse Radio and local acts including a performance by Halifax vocalist Callum Butterworth from the hit BBC show, The Voice. All this entertainment leads nicely up to the lights being switched on at 4.30pm, you'll see the stunning new ‘chocolate’ lights, part funded by Quality Street (practise your catching – there might be an edible giveaway or two!). Immediately after the switch-on, Bulsara and his Queenies will rock you with their amazing Queen renditions. Expect a brilliant performance from the guys who wowed crowds at this year’s official Freddie Mercury Birthday Party in Montreaux. It’s going to be so big we’ve moved it to George Square to accommodate the crowds, and we’ve also stretched it out for more of the day, to fit in all the fabulous acts and activities.

7.30pm By Sue Townsend, directed by Gil Burns In Sue Townsend’s heartfelt comedy, three severely agoraphobic women have left their houses for the first time in years, and made it to a jumble sale. The sale has been organised by their social workers, the young trainee Fliss and the ex-agoraphobic volunteer, Gwenda. As Margaret, Bell-Bell and Katrina prepare to meet the public, armed with the suits of a deceased husband, old sequinned show dresses, a standard lamp, and other bric-a-brac, nerves run high, but a sensitive portrait of the group emerges. Tickets £6 - £10

Performances at 7.30pm with a Saturday Matinee at 2pm Based on the acclaimed film, 9 to 5 the Musical follows the story of three workmates, Doralee, Violet and Judy, all of whom experience the wrath of a very sexist supervisor. One day, the girls vow revenge and tie him up to teach him a lesson. With plans to reform the office, everything is quickly thrown into jeopardy when the CEO pays a surprise visit. A hugely funny musical that is incredibly pertinent to the current social climate, 9 to 5 features an original score by country legend Dolly Parton, which was nominated for an Oscar, Grammy and Tony Award. Tunes include the toe-tapping “Around Here” and the titular “Nine to Five” as well as many more. Remember Dreadlock Holiday, Mr Blue Sky, I'm Mandy Fly Me, Evil Woman, The Things We Do for Love, Wild West Hero, Life Is a Minestrone, Art for Art’s Sake, Turn to Stone, and I’m Not in Love? The hits just keep on coming! A humorous, thought-provoking and entertaining show, 9 to 5 the Musical promises the perfect night out. Please note that tickets cannot be booked thorough the Playhouse Box Office. For this production only any booking queries to the hirers - 07946 639 634

Free ‘Taster Tours’ are available for individuals and couples on the first Sunday of the month (except January). Meet at 2pm opposite the Town Hall pediment on Halifax Road, OL14 5AQ Todmorden Town Hall straddles the Walsden Water and was situated in both Lancashire and Yorkshire until the county boundary was moved on January 1st 1888. Designed by John Gibson of Westminster, this Grade 1 listed building holds a strong place in the hearts of local people. Most iconic, from the outside, is the pediment. The carved stonework has two central female figures on a pedestal. The one on the left represents Lancashire (cotton spinning industry) and the one on the right Yorkshire (engineering and agriculture). Below the two figures are different friezes of the industries coming together to prosper on the border. Inside the building there is an old Magistrate’s Court which now serves as the Todmorden Town Council Chamber. The ballroom upstairs spans the length of the building and holds many memories for those who have attended the variety of events held in the Town Hall for over 140 years.
