Here at Eco-life Gizmos we aim to wow children and parents alike with a fabulous range of wooden toys, delightful gadgets and science-based playthings. We believe that learning through play is fundamental to children’s development and our range of ecologically friendly toys and gifts are designed to gently expand and encourage inquisitive minds whilst simultaneously delighting and amazing the young at heart. Innovative and highly original, our gizmos make great gifts for all ages, providing new and inspirational activities for children, parents and big kids too! They are also an excellent addition to the classroom and are used in colleges and technical training centres. We choose gizmos which are scientific and sustainable, involve educational construction and above all, create fun! Our favourite toys and kits help you ‘do your bit’ by spending time together constructing something new, learning about sustainability and making family memories. Help provide your children and grandchildren with the skills and practical knowledge to equip them for a sustainable future. We have deliberately minimised the use of plastics in our toys and gifts, choosing instead flexible materials, wood and metal. And our range of gizmos and toys includes something for all age ranges and abilities – many at pocket money prices! WE’RE NOT JUST HERE FOR THE BIG THINGS! Although we stock a comprehensive range of bigger toys and gizmos, we also have a whole section dedicated to what we like to call ‘pocket money prices’. Ideally suited for stocking fillers, party bags, reward chart prizes and everyday pocket money presents, this range of tiny treats has something for everyone. Why not pop in and see just what we have to offer – we’re sure you will be amazed at our hidden gems!

Blazing Saddles is Calderdale’s local bike shop, with a workshop in Hebden Bridge and a showroom at Cragg Vale, both open seven days a week. Our well-equipped workshop is manned by Cytech-qualified mechanics and is the place where great things happen. New bikes are brought into the world, feeble bikes made strong once more and miracles worked with all sorts of previously unfixable disasters! At Blazing Saddles our main objective is to help you find the right bike for your needs. We’re all keen riders in one discipline or more and with many years of experience under our belts of riding the wrong bikes as well as the right ones, we know how important it is that you get a bike which suits you and your riding. We’ve chosen to stock the brands that we do because we feel they offer you the best possible choice, whether you’re a road rider, commuter or mountain biker (or even a mix of all three!)

The Astronomy Centre is a major resource for both amateur astronomers and the general public. Based above Todmorden in the North West of England, we have facilities and on-site equipment for both members and visitors. The Observatory is open to the public every Saturday evening from 7.30pm until late throughout the year. During the Summer months of June, July and August, we are also open afternoons from 3pm till 6pm ( except Sundays) for solar viewing and demonstration of the Camera Obscura. Visitors are advised to wrap up warmly, with sensible footwear, as the site can get very cold at any time of year and bring a torch to help find the way. There is no formal charge for visitors, but a small donation would be appreciated ( we suggest £2 per person, £1 for children and concessions), though further donations are always welcome! Group visits can also be made at other times by arrangement. Please park on the lower plateau, next to the caravans. Access for unloading of telescopes etc. and disabled parking is available at the highest point of the site, next to the main dome. Individual membership of the Centre is £15 per year and £30 per year for a family membership. Membership permits the use of the Centre's equipment as appropriate, unlimited technical and instructional advice, access to the members level of the website, the library and priority entrance to special events. If you live a distance away from the centre why not become a `friend of the Astronomy Centre ` for £5.00 per year.

Steeped in history, the Pennine Way National Trail chases along the mountain tops along the rugged backbone of England and offers 268 miles of the finest upland walking in England. A once in a lifetime experience. The Pennine Way enters Calderdale at Blackstone Edge, passing Stoodley Pike, dropping down into the valley at Callis, climbing back up to Colden and over the moors to Widdop. Walkers often say this stretch of over 20 miles is one of the best on the whole route. The Trail is very well way-marked and there are some great views from the route (especially from the iconic Stoodley Pike). If you want to detour into Hebden Bridge on your way, you can use the Hebden Bridge Loop path developed in 2015.

The 121 foot (37 m) high Stoodley Pike Monument dominates the skyline above Todmorden, sitting atop Stoodley Pike, a 1,300-foot (400 m) hill The monument was designed in 1854 by local architect James Green, and completed in 1856 at the end of the Crimean War.

The monument replaced an earlier structure, commemorating the defeat of Napoleon and the surrender of Paris. It was completed in 1815, after the Battle of Waterloo, but collapsed in 1854 after decades of weathering and a lightning strike.

You can only reach the Pike on foot, as there is no vehicular or bicycle access to the monument. Stoodley Pike is accessible by well-defined Right of Way footpaths. The Pennine Way also passes Stoodley Pike. There are many walking routes to the Pike from Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd. Walking guides to all these routes available from local Visitor Centres and the Heart of the Pennines online shop.

Stoodley Pike Monument contains a spiral staircase of 39 steps, accessed from its north side. If you visit, please be aware that several of the internal steps are in darkness, so it’s useful to have a torch to light your way, as there are no windows. The entrance to the balcony is on the Monument’s west face, some 40 feet above ground level. The views are well worth the walk and the climb!
