    Cromwell Bottom is one of the richest areas in Calderdale in terms of biodiversity, boasting over 130 species of plant, 200 species of birds, large numbers of mammals, amphibians and lots of invertebrate life. Anyone, adults and chiildren, who is interested in nature needs to visit Cromwell Bottom. The area is mainly woodland with a really good network of paths. There is also a wheelchair and pushchair accessible route.     The Bottoms Mill shop sells a variety of products ranging from bedding to jewellery and gifts to D.I.Y. plus much more. In addition to the Mill Shop down stairs, there is a cafe upstairs which sells a selection of beverages and hot and cold food with daily specials. The Bottoms Mill Shop is located in Walsden on Rochdale road and was opened in 2003 by Gordon Rigg after The Bottoms Mill Company Ltd. moved to Brighouse. The mill shop sells a variety of products ranging from bedding to jewellery and gifts to D.I.Y. plus much more. In addition to the Mill Shop down stairs, there is a cafe upstairs which sells a selection of beverages and hot and cold food with daily specials. There is ample parking to the front and side and toilet facilities on site. There is also a lift to get upstairs to the cafe.

    Please note that the Gallery & Library will be closing to the public from 20th March until further notice.

    This purpose built Art Gallery and public library, known as ‘The Rydings’, is surrounded by a beautiful park and gardens.

    The front gallery hosts an exhibition of oil paintings, based on People and Places, including works by Atkinson Grimshaw, Marcus Stone and Thomas Sydney Cooper. The rear gallery hosts changing displays, covering a wide variety of themes from local artists to touring exhibitions, including photography, mixed media and sculpture, ensuring there is always something new and different to enjoy.

    The gallery was built by Alderman William Smith and donated, along with his collection of artwork, to the people of Brighouse in 1907.

    The Smith Art Gallery provides a pleasant atmosphere to meet your friends, interact with beautiful paintings and do the family gallery hunt/trail.

    There is also an exciting programme of temporary exhibitions in a range of media from paintings to photography and textiles, providing a wonderful experience each time you visit.

    Join us for our ninth-annual Brighouse Arts Festival from Friday 2nd October 2020 to Sunday 11th October 2020. This year our community festival will open with choirs, dancers, and theatre makers! 10 days of family fun in Brighouse, Calderdale, West Yorkshire. Our headliners are Dame Patricia Routledge with Edward Seckerson, O’Hooley & Tidwow, and Roger Davies & His Band. We have also have 2 further headliners this year, yes 5 unique nationally significant acts… but these are top secret for just a few more weeks. Join us for musical theatre, dance, choirs, folk music, acoustic concerts, classical concerts, heritage talks and arts activities this October.

    Join us on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th November for an amazing food and craft market, live music and, of course, a range of Christmas fun for all the family – including the switch-on of the town’s Christmas lights. The event, which takes over the whole town centre, attracts thousands each year and this year is set to be no exception. Organised by Brighouse BID, the whole town is part of the event – with carol singing, Christmas dancing and school choirs entertaining crowds throughout the weekend.
