    A new exhibition capturing a century of Brighouse, West Yorkshire on canvas and camera, featuring paintings and photographs from Calderdale Museums’ collections, including works by local Brighouse artists Miles Sharp and Stanley Chapman. These works are displayed alongside newly produced photographs by the Halifax Photographic Society, who have recreated scenes from historic artworks of Brighouse to bring up to date the story of everyday life and ongoing change in the town. This exhibition runs from Saturday 19th October 2019 until Monday 20th April 2020 . Its success soon inspires her to fight for creative ownership and overcome the societal constraints of the early 20th century.     Undoubtedly the Nation’s favourite Frenchman, Marcel Lucont is bringing his exquisite new show, and a live band to abuse, to Hebden Bridge.  

    Expect wit sharper than a pint of English wine, poems sexier than an art déco brothel and jibes more devastating than an ill-judged referendum. 

    Catch the Gallic symbol at the height of his imperial phase on Friday 17 January at Hebden Bridge Little Theatre. Doors open at 7pm and the show will start at 8pm. Tickets are on sale now price £15 (plus booking fee). Book early, to avoid disappointment.

    English Barn Dances are easy, enjoyable and excellent exercise; the dance caller will talk you through the moves before and during the dance and help is usually to hand from our helpful regulars.

    Admission costs £9 for adults, children 12 years and under are free (as long as they are accompanied by an adult) and anyone over 13 years in full-time education is £5.

    7.30pm Halifax Chamber Choir is giving a concert in St. Jude’s Parish Church, Free School Lane, Halifax on Saturday 25th January at 7.30pm. The programme, Gems of European Sacred Music, features music by Monteverdi, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Bruckner and Faure including Faure’s well-known Cantique de Jean Racine, Monteverdi’s Beatus Vir and Cesar Franck’s Panis Angelicus. Halifax Chamber Choir, formerly known as Halifax Madrigal Society, has been performing in Halifax over 120 years. Since 2015 the choir has been directed by Aljosa Skorja (Josh), young Slovenian conductor and musicologist and winner of the London Classical Soloists’ 2015 Conducting Competition. For this concert the choir is accompanied by the organist Professor David Baker, Director of the Halifax Organ Academy and tutor with the RCO/St Giles International Organ School. Admission at the door is £10, concessions £8 and full-time students £1
