Watergate licensed tearooms specialise in high quality homemade food and drinks without the use of added colourings or flavourings. We are situated in the picturesque market town of Hebden Bridge on the edge of the Brönte moors and a short drive from Haworth. Outside our terrace offers views over the beautiful river Calder, and is perfect for enjoying those relaxing Yorkshire Summer afternoons. We can cater for private parties with both the function room and the terrace available to hire. Everyday we have a range of hot foods, including fresh homemade soup. You will also find a large selection of freshly made cakes and award winning scones. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous you could try our secret recipe Welsh Rarebit, and one taste will get you hooked. Our ‘Firemans Lift’ is so named because of its substantial size (you will need a fireman to lift you after this one). All our hot dishes can be accompanied with our fine selection of teas and freshly ground coffee, or with a choice of carefully selected wines and beers.

The use of local and seasonal produce is a theme that runs through the Old Gate menu but we have also tried to incorporate it in the renovation of the building, using local suppliers and independent stores wherever possible, even down to the fabric for our curtains and upholstery. We are also proud to introduce and exhibit various artists from around the area; take time to look at our decorative artwork and also our Wordle (you can't miss it!) hand painted by a local sign writer, it will give you a great idea of the experience we hope you will have at Old Gate.
