Our Strap Line is ‘Power to the Pedal’ and we offer those who live in the Calder Valley area or who visit the area, the opportunity to plan their own e-bike safari on high quality (British manufactured) Volt e-bikes.

The Calder Valley offers a multitude of cycling routes for e-bikes, from canal towpaths, to quiet country lanes and stunning hilltop views.

Rental: Clients have the following options on rental:

Hourly Rate: £10

Daily rate: £35

3 day Rate (ideal for long weekends) £96

1 week rental (7 days) £175

We can drop the bikes directly at a location (within a 5 mile radius of Sowerby Bridge) and collect at end of rental. Cost £5

For any distance over 5 miles the charge is £10

Welcome to Happydays Cycles, home to the Bike Shop & Cycle Café in Sowerby Bridge along with various projects to get people out and about. Happydays has a Bike Library where you can hire a bicycle from half a day to a week. You can also donate your old or unused bikes to the Library, so others can benefit from them. Happy Days Cycles is a social enterprise business, our main outlet is the shop and café in Sowerby Bridge. All profits go towards funding our work amongst the homeless in West Yorkshire. We are committed to journey with people to develop a love for cycling and enable them as individuals to reach independence. We value partnerships with churches, individuals, volunteers, local government and other organisations to promote integration into the wider community. We would love to welcome you to our café. Pop in to try scrumptious locally sourced cakes, fresh coffee or a delicious lunch! Happydays Café also hosts local groups such as 'Knit N Natter' and exciting community events for all ages.

Following the success of Tour de France, Welcome to Yorkshire, supported by Yorkshire Bank; have helped local communities set up bike banks to allow free bike hire.

Used bikes are donated for free and then reconditioned and hired out, allowing children and adults to learn to ride, get fit or just enjoy their natural environment on a bike.

Calderdale has two bike banks located at:

Happy Days Cycles in 18 Town Hall Street, Sowerby Bridge
Active Calderdale Bike Library, Halifax Fire Station, in Skircoat Moor Road

The Active Calderdale Library at Halifax is open 10am -1pm on the first Saturday of each month and run by West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service in collaboration with Calderdale Council.To book a bike and for enquiries (including donating a bike) please email bikelibrary@calderdale.gov.uk

The Summit Tunnel at Walsden is one of the oldest railway tunnels in the world. Just over 1.6 miles (2.6 km) long, the Tunnel was built between 1838 and 1841 by the Manchester and Leeds Railway. The Tunnel was the longest in the world when it opened. Until the Tunnel was completed, trains ran to both ends and coaches took passengers the two miles or so before they could resume their journey by rail.
