In its time the majority of premier band championships have been held by ‘Briggus’, most recently becoming National Champion Band of Great Britain in 2017, whilst the band has also attracted a formidable reputation for highly entertaining concerts for both the general public and brass band connoisseur. The band was formed over 130 years ago through public donations given by the townsfolk of the adjacent villages of Brighouse and Rastrick that face each other across the River Calder in West Yorkshire. Today, it still continues to be supported through public subscriptions and its own fundraising efforts. Tickets from £15.75

FEAST FOR THE EYES – Art exhibition by JANE AUSTIN

The fifth solo exhibition at All Souls by local watercolour artist Jane Austin will include all of her local heritage prints as well many new paintings that fully reflect the range of her work. Always looking for the bright spots around her in colour and pattern, nature and architecture there is something for all tastes. Commission is donated to All Souls c/o The Churches Conservation Trust. Jane will be on hand to chat and painting if possible at the time, www.janeaustin.co.uk.

The church was commissioned by Colonel Edward Akroyd who built one of the first model villages in England for his mill workers, both of which were designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott. The old manor house was later donated to become Bankfield Museum.

Come to feast your eyes inside this gem of a building as well as on the art.

A self guided walk by Jackie Butterfield around the church and Akroydon will be available and volunteers on hand to answer your questions.

A bookable guided walk by David Glover of Akroydon cemetery is planned for Sat 18th at 2 pm. To book please phone Anneliese Gray 07932101395 or email Anneliese.gray@calderdale.gov.uk Monday – Thursday only from 9th August. Please note spaces are limited and a donation on the day to All Souls c/o The Churches Conversation Trust would be much appreciated.

The old Sunday school, now 'Dance-In-Elegance', will be open to visit for refreshments.

If you have old connections to the church and Sunday school we would love to add your stories to our project the 'People of All Souls'.
