    10am - 12pm

Wild playing out sessions for families at our Eastwood Forest School site, Eastwood, Todmorden OL14 6DQ.

We will be getting creative with nature, probably digging interesting holes and definitely cooking on the fire and searching for things in the pond, all inspired by the forest school ethos.

Forest School is a child-centred educational approach that sees natural settings as rich opportunities for learning. The overwhelming aim of our Family Forest School sessions is to give space and time for children and their parents to have fun together and discover all the play possibilities of the outdoor world and make friends at the same time.

The sessions are run by fully qualified Forest School Leaders and Volunteers. All adults leading the sessions hold current enhanced DBSs.

More information available from Tinderwood Trust via our Facebook page - tinderwoodtrust, or through our website.

Suitable for ages 0-6 (no unaccompanied children)

£4 per child . No booking required

Free ‘Taster Tours’ are available for individuals and couples on the first Sunday of the month (except January). Meet at 2pm opposite the Town Hall pediment on Halifax Road, OL14 5AQ Todmorden Town Hall straddles the Walsden Water and was situated in both Lancashire and Yorkshire until the county boundary was moved on January 1st 1888. Designed by John Gibson of Westminster, this Grade 1 listed building holds a strong place in the hearts of local people. Most iconic, from the outside, is the pediment. The carved stonework has two central female figures on a pedestal. The one on the left represents Lancashire (cotton spinning industry) and the one on the right Yorkshire (engineering and agriculture). Below the two figures are different friezes of the industries coming together to prosper on the border. Inside the building there is an old Magistrate’s Court which now serves as the Todmorden Town Council Chamber. The ballroom upstairs spans the length of the building and holds many memories for those who have attended the variety of events held in the Town Hall for over 140 years.

7:30pm “The Fire Of Olympus; or, On Sticking It To The Man” is a brand-new opera by the innovative Yorkshire-based mavericks Radius Opera. A spectacular show, it tells the story of Prometheus and Pandora, and features virtuoso singers together with the digitally combined voices of over 1000 volunteers drawn from choirs across the North of England. In the opera, composed by Yorkshire-based Tim Benjamin, Zeus, the powerful President of Olympus, faces revolution and anarchy, as prankster activists led Prometheus steal his mystical Fire. The dramatic story includes Pandora and her famous “box” of evils, and is set in a world similar to 1960s America, amid anti-war and freedom of speech conflicts. The opera, which is in English, re-imagines the popular 18th century operas of Handel, which contained many memorable tunes and often dealt with themes from Greek and Roman myth. The performance lasts 100 minutes plus interval.
