    1.30 - 4pm FREE entry

Brand new Guided tours at 2pm with David Glover and Stuart Wilkinson.

Discover tales of the Square Chapel tombstones, anecdotes of a blind Bellman, tragic triplets, a Mayor’s infant son, a corrupt Sheriff, a Home Management Manual’s authoress, an early Spiritualist, and a noted brewer who was prosecuted for being drunk.

    And:

A man from Indiana who met a mystery end in Halifax; a man who fought the Americans in Canada; repatriated ashes of a man who had been institutionalised in New York.

Halifax’s General Cemetery is the last resting place of nearly 20,000 past local residents and others from the 1840s to 1963. These include Mill owners, Chartists, Waterloo Soldiers, Great War fatalities, Nurses, nonconformist clergy, organ builders, and even murder victims.

The cemetery - of European significance, has been rescued from jungle conditions over the past eighteen years and is cared for by its Friends, a public charity.

Please note that there are no toilets on site and that stout footwear is recommended.
