Why not try the new Dean Clough family trail? This free trail takes approximately 1 hour to complete and the clues lead you across the Dean Clough site (both inside and out). On your travels you will get to see the huge Dean Clough Lego model and you'll be tested to see if you can walk along the old railway tracks, amongst many things.

There are also cafes, bars and restaurants at Dean Clough so you can combine doing the trail with having a bite to eat or something to drink.

Check out our website www.deanclough.com for opening times and what else there is to see and do at Dean Clough. The trail leaflets are available from Main Reception in D Mill.

Discover tales of an American who died mysteriously in Halifax, the Square Chapel tombstones, anecdotes of a blind Bellman, tragic triplets, a Mayor’s infant son, a corrupt Sheriff, a Home Management Manual’s authoress, an early Spiritualist, and a noted brewer who was prosecuted for being drunk.

Halifax’s General Cemetery is the last resting place of nearly 20,000 past local residents and others from the 1840s to 1963. These include Mill owners, Chartists, Waterloo Soldiers, Great War fatalities, Nurses, nonconformist clergy, organ builders, and even murder victims.

The cemetery - of European significance, has been rescued from jungle conditions over the past eighteen years and is cared for by its Friends, a public charity.

Please note that there are no toilets on site and that stout footwear is recommended.

In 1830 Elizabeth & Ann Walker inherited much of Lightcliffe and became very wealthy. Within two years Ann had become the companion of Anne Lister. We walk round part of the estate passing where Ann lived. We finish in the churchyard where she is buried together with other members of her family, employees and tenants. The tower will be open with viewing restricted to the first 2 steps. This is a 2 hour circular walk, mainly on pavements with just a short walk across a footpath. Dogs on leads welcome. Guide: Ian Philp We will use TicketSource https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/calderdale-heritage-walks which appears to be an easy site to use and, if we have to cancel a walk, will provide an automatic refund. The cost of most walks will be £4 inclusive of booking fee but a few are £5 because of extra expenses. The site will open for bookings on Friday 21st May. Groups will be between 16 and 22. Many of our walks start at 2pm and the details of where to meet, including a post code, will be on your ticket. These walks are not really suited to under 13s.
