Welland

Price: Free

Event description

Welland is an annual celebration that intertwines the realms of arts and wellbeing in the heart of Elland. Designed to combat loneliness and ignite the spark of creativity within our community, Welland is about connection, expression, and shared experiences.

The essence of Welland lies in the collaborative efforts of the local community. Many passionate people have poured their ideas into the creation, planning, and vision of this year’s event. Together, we have curated a unique lineup that showcases the memories and narratives of our neighbours.

Unleash your inner artist, join hands with fellow enthusiasts, and embark on a journey of self-expression and human connection in Elland.

There’s a whole day of activities planned, including:
– Taster workshops: outdoor poetry workshop, dance and movement sessions, children’s storytelling, and African drumming
– Drop in arts activities: make your own cyanotype print and explore memories and stories through arts and crafts
– Free coffee from Gaggia UK and other refreshments

The final part of the day involves a special sharing of films and performance, made with and featuring local people from across the area.

The full programme and access information is available here.

Welland is a FREE event and open to everyone. There is the option to make a donation on the day if you would like to.

All activities are designed for people of all backgrounds and experience levels to join in with or experience in the way that works for them.

You don’t need to book but there is limited capacity so please arrive for your chosen activities in plenty of time.
Children must be accompanied by their parent/ carer at all times.

Accessibility Information

  • Welland is accessed via the main entrance in Southgate Church’s car park – this is step free and has a wide entrance with double doors.
  • The car park is free but is small. There are two disabled parking spaces but space around them is quite limited when the car park is busy.
  • If you live in Elland and are able to walk to the event, we recommend this to help manage parking and access for others on the day.
  • If driving to the event is essential, we recommend using the many car parks in Elland if you do not require close access to the building.
  • Activities will be taking place in the Sykes Hall, which is on the ground floor just inside the car park entrance. It’s a large hall with a smooth hard floor. We are also using the coffee bar area and another smaller room at the back of the hall – these can be accessed via stairs or a lift.
  • There are accessible toilet facilities on the ground floor – one along the corridor from the Sykes Hall and another near the coffee bar area.
  • If you have questions about access or would like to make us aware of your access requirements please contact us and we will be happy to help.
