VJ Day Event at Bankfield Museum

Event description

Commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War with this free 1940s-themed fun day for all the family. There will be military displays and re-enactors to enjoy, as well as live 1940s music, swing dance workshops, a fashion show, community stalls and food. Children can have a go at our special activity trail and 1940s themed crafts, as well as tackle a WW2 assault course! Period dress is encouraged.

There will be free parking at Dean Clough and a regular shuttle bus to the museum, as well as limited blue badge parking at the museum itself.

This event is kindly funded by Museums Development North and the Arts Council as part of the national V80 funding programme. Our partners are Halifax Opportunities Trust and the Kohima Museum.

Bankfield Museum is open 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Saturday (Closed Sunday and Monday)

Accessibility Information:

  • For this event only the blue badge parking will be at the front of the building not at the back and will be very limited on the day as the event is taking place in the park itself.  If anyone needs further details we are happy for them to ring us in advance for more information on the main Bankfield Museum number 01422 352334.
  • All of the Ground Floor is wheelchair accessible (main areas and galleries of museum).
  • Toilets, disabled toilet and baby change are all on ground floor.
  • Large print labels are available for exhibitions. and Handling Boxes are available for visually impaired visitors .
