The Great strike of 1842 – Commemoration Day

Event description

A series of interactive playlets around the Museum will tell the story of this historic day in Halifax and its industrial heritage.

Civic unrest in the industrial heartlands of Northern England culminated in protest and dramatic events in Halifax. People congregated in the town from outlying districts, intent on demanding improvements in working conditions and pay. The action culminated in what has become known as the Plug Riots.

Come to the Museum and find out all about this momentous time and immerse yourself in our living history experience.

 

Calderdale Industrial Museum is Open Saturdays 10am – 4pm and also Thursdays in the School Holidays

Entrance fee: £7.50 per adult. Concessions £5. accompanied children enter free. We also offer an Annual Pass for £12 per adult that gives unlimited admission to the museum for 12 months.

Accessibility Information;

  • Access is to the side of the Museum via our newly-installed ramp and stairs.
  • Internally there are stairs and a lift to all floors.
  • Disabled Parking is available by prior request.
