The Kokoo Footprints Walking Challenge

Price: Free
The Kokoo Footprints Walking Challenge

Event description

Did you know that 70% of the world’s cocoa is produced by four countries in West Africa; Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and Cameroon?

At the same time, farming communities like these  in the Global South remain on the frontlines of the climate crisis and are hardest hit, yet the least resourced.

Cocoa, sugar, coffee, tea, dates and olives will continue to cross borders freely… while the hands that grow them remain.

To mark Refugee Week, the Chocolate Has A Name Festival 2026 invites you to take part in something meaningful:  Kokoo Footprints.

This is a 54-mile relay around the Calderdale Way, taking place from Saturday 6th to Sunday 7th June, starting and finishing in Halifax with a bake sale.

It’s a 12-leg walk, with small teams or pods  of up to eight people.

A cocoa sack will be carried and passed along the route as a symbolic baton.

This is an intentional act of repair.  A  chance to give back to farming communities through the Chocolate Has A Name project, which supports cocoa processing and value addition as part of everyday learning for children growing up in cocoa-farming communities in Ghana.

Each walker will raise sponsorship through the Crowdfunder, helping turn steps into impact.

Join a pod. Take a leg. Carry the story.

Because chocolate has a name.
