2pm
The Cragg Vale Coiners came from up the Calder Valley, but many significant events in their story took place in Halifax itself.
We visit the location of ‘King’ David Hartley’s arrest, the site of the 1769 Excise man murder, hear the tale of the arrested Constable, learn of the last coiner buried in Halifax Churchyard and see the memorial to Robert Parker who prosecuted the guinea-clippers.
And there were hangings on a Gallows…
Meet David at 2pm at Square, by Piece Hall north gate HX1 1RJ.
Finish at Matalan Car Park, Berry Lane, HX1 1RD
Nothing too strenuous. An escort will be available to walk back to the start. Suitable for dogs on leads
