1.30pm
A new illustrated presentation by local Halifax Historian David Glover.
Until 90 years ago an inner part of Halifax was dubbed The City; it was congested, contained many yards and ginnels, and was poorly sanitised.
Eventually by the 1930s it was condemned, and properties compulsorily purchased; demolition followed, with a view to a cinema and a new Bus Station being built. The Odeon arrived, then after nearly 20 years – and temporary air raid shelters – came Cross Field which many will recall. We also take a look at what the old streets nearby looked like.
