Destitute after the death of her Chelsea Pensioner husband, remarkably, 78-year-old Hannah Logan walked to London from Halifax in 1832; Lucy Hamerton recorded much about quirks of life in 19th Century Elland; Southowram-born Caroline Freeman is believed to have been the first Calderdale woman University graduate; and Eileen Nugent from Sowerby became secretary to Scouting’s founder, Baden Powell. These women deserve to be remembered!
