Our new exhibition features the amazing wood carvings of Anthony Griffiths. The exhibition opens on Saturday 29th January, and will run until the 23rd April 2022. If you are lucky, you might even catch Tony giving a demonstration of his carving techniques !
Anthony Griffiths is originally from Staffordshire. After University, he started designing and making wooden children’s toys in the 1970’s and then spent a year working for Essex Museums, where he was involved in both museum interpretation and exhibition development. A move to West Yorkshire in 1979 and a teaching qualification from the University of Leeds was followed by twelve years teaching and educational advisory work in the local area. In 1992 he was appointed as a part time member of the development team at Eureka!, whilst continuing to pursue his interest in woodwork and craft production.
The following year, along with a talented artist and illustrator, he set up the Animania ! Partnership which, for more than twenty years, built a range of bespoke educational environments, mainly in the heritage, libraries and health sectors.
After retirement, Anthony has continued with his love of craftsmanship in wood. In his workshop in Ripponden, he now concentrates on producing original and diverse carvings in both native and recycled materials.
