Starting at the notorious Halifax Gibbet – scene of many violent deaths, we shall visit the site of a Luddite ‘crime’ of 1812, locate the place of an attempted murder by soldiers in Chartist times, learn about the goldsmith arsonist, and the slain newspaper compositor. Also, find out about the Christmas murder of 1908, the killing of a Tudor vicar, and the early crimes of JRH Christie. But what about illegal burials?
This is a linear walk AFTER DARK – please feel free to bring torches! Not suitable for those with mobility or sight limitations. Good vision and strong footwear required, some walking will be on grass surfaces. The walk finishes at the former Halifax Magistrates Court, Harrison Road and an escort will be available afterwards to walk you back to the start if required.
