A fascinating illustrated presentation by David Glover detailing one of the greatest British panics of the 20th Century – right here in Halifax area!
David will tell a unique story! During the last days of November 1938, as war clouds gathered over Europe, Halifax and its environs saw an extraordinary series of
events reported. After dark, a mysterious attacker was cutting the clothing of local people, mainly women, sometimes causing wounds. Dubbed ‘The Halifax
Slasher’, descriptions of a man in a raincoat varied. This bogeyman totally baffled local Police, and the bizarre story was publicised in the Press across the UK. Paranoia and lack of trust in the Police led to unparalleled mass vigilantism in the district, and it would take a team from Scotland Yard to sort the facts out. Prosecutions then followed.
