In 2015, the Science Museum in London was telling visitors that “No-one knows why the Industrial Revolution took off when it did, with Britain in the lead.” This talk aims to restate the classic account that it was, for good or ill, our part of the Pennines which took the vital
steps towards the radical change in production techniques which went on to change the world, explaining in a novel way what rendered this area uniquely ready to play
