Award-winning English Youth Ballet makes it’s debut at the Victoria Theatre with an exquisite production of SWAN LAKE. International principal dancers will lead an impressive cast of 100 local, young dancers selected for their skill and potential.
Set in Russia in at the time when the Maryinsky Ballet was popular with the Tsar and the Russian nobility, Baron Von Rothbart, Director of the Russian Ballet schemes to secure Royal patronage through the marriage of his daughter Odile to the Tsar’s son. Odette is eventually betrayed in this famous ballet which leads to a tragic and dramatic end.
Enjoy the beautiful dancing of the swans in the Lakeside scene and the sumptuous contrast of the Tsar’s Palace Gardens in Act 3. The production promises to be traditional but with particular emphasis on the rivalry between the seductive Black Swan Odile and the vulnerable White Swan Odette, as they compete for the Prince’s affection.
Now in its phenomenal 26th year – English Youth Ballet has a formidable reputation for classic and dramatic productions of the famous full length classical ballets. With professional dancers, formerly from The Royal Ballet, English National Ballet and Northern Ballet taking the leading roles, the company gives young dancers throughout the UK a wonderful performance opportunity to dance alongside the principals in solo and corps de ballet roles. EYB promises a spectacular evening at the ballet.
