You can enjoy not one, but two magnificent lesbian documentaries for the first session of the Anne Lister Festival’s film afternoon!
Firstly, we have ‘Old Lesbians’: Meghan McDonough’s incredibly moving story of the late Arden Eversmeyer’s journey across the USA as she recorded hundreds of oral herstories with a mostly invisible population that is rapidly disappearing.
This will be followed by ‘Not Quite That’: the unbelievably humbling story of Sarah –a Jewish woman, a mother and a butch lesbian who has a genetic mutation for breast cancer. Should she have a preventative double mastectomy? This is an intimate exploration of how we are seen and how we see ourselves.
At the end of these two short films we have the director of HebdenBridge Film Festival, Louise Wadley, who will be chatting with both the director of ‘Old Lesbians’ and the subject of Not Quite That–from the USA and Canada respectively.
