The Rotary Club of Halifax are once again hosting their annual community walk and operation of the Castle Carr Fountains on SUNDAY 7 JULY 2024 and would be delighted if you could join us for this spectacular event and help us to raise funds for our charitable activities in the Town.
The guided walk will commence near the Cat I’th Well pub, Wainstalls Lane at 12 noon and is a 2.5 mile route to the fountains. There is ample car parking in a nearby field so PLEASE do not park on the roadside or on private property, the car park will be marshalled to assist you. This year we have made the walk circular and the return will be signposted so that walkers do not have to use the public roads. Please ensure that you wear suitable footwear if taking part as the surface may be uneven and damp/wet.
There is limited parking above the fountains site for those who would find it difficult to walk the full distance. This can be accessed by following Castle Carr Road from Wainstalls to the site where there will be marshalls to assist you.
A map will be available for download to assist with your travels to both parking areas..
The fountains will be activated at approximately 2pm and will run for about 45 minutes. They are gravity fed so once activated they will run until the cistern is empty and will not run again. Please ensure that you are at the site before 2pm to get the full experience.
If you use “what three words” then enter home.mops.shirtless for the long walk start point and bliss.flame.dumplings for the one nearer the fountains. There is no mobile signal at the fountains site so these references will send you in the right direction until the signal ends.
Please note that the final access to the fountains site is by foot down a rough track that is not suitable for wheelchairs or people with mobility issues . We are sorry if this affects you but we have no control over this.
Dogs are welcome but must be on a short lead and under close control at all times. The farmers have livestock in the fields and allowing dogs to run free may well lead to unfortunate circumstances and the future of the event being put in doubt.
Photography is encouraged but please note that the use of drones is strictly prohibited.
All funds raised from this event will support our aim of ‘doing good in the world’ and we ask that you help us by paying the fees charged for this online service. We appreciate that it is an extra expense but it makes a big difference to what we can do at the end of the day.
As always we are grateful to the Scholefield family who farm the private area around the fountains and allow us access to the land and to Yorkshire Water who maintain the fountains and their water supply. Please respect the land by taking your rubbish home.
There is no mobile phone signal in the area so please print your ticket, or save a version to your phone, that you can show to the marshals
We look forward to seeing you there – don’t forget your picnic! (although we sell ice cream, water and tea on site)
Tickets prices for 2024 TBC.
