The remarkable story of a Derbyshire woman who rose from relatively humble beginnings, to be (probably) the richest woman in England after Elizabeth I! She married four times, built the first Chatsworth and two Hardwick Halls, among others structures, and founded dynasties which still hold influence today. She even hoped her granddaughter Arbella would become Queen! And Bess’s descendants the Dukes of Devonshire have led fascinating lives, down to the present generation.
