SUMMARY:The City\, a Forgotten part of Halifax: A David Glover Historical Talk
DESCRIPTION:1.30pm \nA new illustrated presentation by local Halifax Historian David Glover. \nUntil 90 years ago an inner part of Halifax was dubbed The City; it was congested\, contained many yards and ginnels\, and was poorly sanitised. \nEventually by the 1930s it was condemned\, and properties compulsorily purchased; demolition followed\, with a view to a cinema and a new Bus Station being built. The Odeon arrived\, then after nearly 20 years – and temporary air raid shelters – came Cross Field which many will recall. We also take a look at what the old streets nearby looked like. \nTaking place at Elland Community Hub \, Huddersfield Road\, HX5 9DL \n£7\,  you can book online in advance or pay  on the door \nFor more information please ring: 01422 898571

SUMMARY:Madama Butterfly
DESCRIPTION:Start time 7:30pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUkrainian National Opera® \nPresents \nMadama Butterfly – One of the most colourful & exotic operas \nMusic by G. Puccini. Sung in Italian with English Surtitles \nPerformed by the Dnipro Opera\, from Ukraine \nFeaturing an impressive cast and accompanied by a live Orchestra numbering over 30 musicians. \nWe are delighted to bring back Dnipro Opera theatre from the Ukraine for our next Opera Season. This opera and ballet theatre has a long-standing heritage of top quality opera productions\, and we are excited to bring it back to the UK. \nNo opera can match the tragedy and sorrow of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. \nSet in Japan at the turn of the last century\, it is the story of a doomed love affair between an American naval officer and his young Japanese bride whose self-sacrifice and defiance of her family leads to tragedy. \nThough infinitely sad and tragic\, the compelling tale of Madama Butterfly remained Puccini’s favourite opera – his supreme theatrical achievements also gave the world its most sublime and beautiful arias in history – One Fine Day and Love Duet\, as well as the Humming Chorus which has been popular with opera-goers for over a century. \nThis touching tale of innocent love crushed between two utterly different cultures resonates as strongly as ever in today’s world. \n  \n\n\n\nAccessibility Information: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWheelchair access \nFollowing recent improvements to the stalls seating area\, we now offer easier access and better viewing locations for wheelchair users. So you can be assured of a comfortable and enjoyable experience\, we have level access to the stalls from Commercial Street and provide two accessible toilets on the stalls level. \n  \nHearing Impaired \nThe Victoria Theatre has an induction loop for hearing aid users in the auditorium and Box Office.\nAdditionally the Victoria Theatre now offers an infra-red audio system allowing customers in the Stalls and The Circle and to individually adjust the volume of the performance. \n  \nVisual Impairments \nWe now offer versions of our seasonal brochure in large print. Please contact the box office to request copies to be sent to you.\nGuide dogs are welcome and we will be pleased to provide a bowl of water on request. \n  \nComplimentary tickets\nWe are pleased to offer a complimentary ticket to essential carers of people with additional needs. SUMMARY:Hebden Bridge Film Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Hebden Bridge Film Festival returns from the 20th to 22nd March 2026. \nIts 2026 opening night screening will take place on Friday 20 March 7pm (doors 6pm) at the Hebden Bridge Picture House\, featuring a special preview of the much-anticipated neo-Western film “Rebuilding”. \nFollowing its world premiere at Sundance\, “Rebuilding” comes to Hebden Bridge as an exclusive preview screening ahead of its official release\, continuing HBFF’s tradition of opening the festival with bold\, timely cinema. The film stars Josh O’Connor (Challengers\, God’s Own Country) and Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus) in the lead roles. \nAfter losing his family ranch to devastating wildfires\, Dusty (O’Connor) finds himself displaced and living among fellow climate refugees. Struggling with grief\, he begins to rebuild his sense of purpose through reconnecting with his young daughter and finding strength in a new-found community. Shot against the vast\, striking landscapes of Southern Colorado\, the film is a quietly powerful story about loss\, resilience\, and the chance to begin again. \nAfter many years of sold out opening night screenings\, early booking is strongly advised. Tickets for the March 20 screening of “Rebuilding” are available to book here. \nFull programme details are due to be announced on Friday 6 March 2026\, at which point tickets for the remaining screenings will go on sale at hebdenbridgefilmfestival.org. \n  \nAbout the Hebden Bridge Film Festival\nThe Hebden Bridge Film Festival in association with the beautifully restored\, state-of-the-art Hebden Bridge Picture House cinema and\, for the first time this year\, Hebden Bridge’s renowned venue The Trades Club\, brings artists and diverse audiences together to celebrate storytelling. With strong roots in local and independent film\, HBFF is synonymous with creative expression and entertainment. The festival brings film lovers to the Calderdale valley and champions emerging and established voices and introduces new ideas through exclusive premieres\, exhibitions\, conversations\, and live performances. \nThe festival was founded by Louise Wadley and Jay Rutovitz in 2019 to champion the stories of those who exist in the margins\, sit outside the mainstream or just plain don’t fit in\, and promote films produced and directed by women\, LGBTQ\, working-class and BME filmmakers and filmmakers with disabilities. \n  \n  \n

When Claus Kohler is apprenticed to Frantz Schmidt\, Nuremberg’s seasoned executioner\, the two men are thrown together in a world where duty\, morality\, and power collide\, and every decision leaves a mark. But as the gallows fill and suspicion takes root\, their fates become dangerously entwined\, until both must decide who they are\, and which side of the rope they stand on. \nPerformed by just two actors\, Making a Killing is a razor-sharp\, dark comedy about justice\, corruption\, and the cost of survival in a world disturbingly like our own. Bold\, biting\, and impossible to ignore\, the play takes inspiration from The Journal of Master Frantz Schmidt\, Public Executioner of Nuremberg\, 1573–1617. SUMMARY:Halifax Urban Trail
DESCRIPTION:Easter Monday will see the staging of the inaugural Halifax Urban Trail\, a trail race of just over 10K with a real difference. \nYou’ll be running from Shibden Park (the home of Anne Lister – ‘Gentleman Jack’) along tracks and paths to Beacon Hill\, the viewpoint high over the town of Halifax. And then\, having descended into the heart of the town\, you’ll discover some of Halifax’s most iconic landmark buildings… by actually running through them. \nYou’ll experience in turn a subterranean passage under Shibden Hall\, Halifax Minster\, the magnificent Piece Hall\, the town’s Borough Market and the Dean Clough complex\, once a carpet factory and now an art gallery\, performance space and much more. Oh\, and we’ll also be allowing you inside Halifax Town Hall (designed by the architect of the Houses of Parliament) for a visit to the borough’s impressive Council Chamber. Several of the places on our race route aren’t normally open to the public. \nWe’ve copied shamelessly the idea of our urban trail from across the Channel\, where trails urbains regularly take place in many French towns and cities\, with runners given the chance to run through their town halls\, churches and chateaux. Urban trails are now extremely popular in France and we think our Halifax take on the idea will be just as well supported. If you’ve not run an urban trail before (or even if you have)\, we promise that you’ll find this an exceptionally memorable experience. \nAnd it’s all to help raise funds for our local Calderdale hospice\, Overgate\, which is fundraising for its very ambitious new building project. \nEntry fee: £25 (£23 for EA members) \nRegistration opens: October 1st 2025
