Yorkshire Day 2018 in Calderdale
Celebrate one year since The Piece Hall reopened this Yorkshire Day. The courtyard will be transformed into a community street party with an afternoon of anniversary celebrations. There will be bunting and long communal tables with a selection of party pop-up food and drink traders offering tea, cakes, toasties and bubbles. Live music from the world-famous Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band and vintage swing band Jump Jive and Wail. The fantastic selection of independent shops, cafes and bars will also have in-store events and special promotions throughout the day.
At Halifax Borough Market from 10am – 4pm there’s food tasting and special offers from traders, tours of the Market and the Streets in the Sky, a magic show, balloon modelling, face painting, t-shirt printing and Phoenix Radio. Kids can join in with the Market Treasure Hunt; pick up your copy of the map from under the clock in the centre of the market. All FREE. Tours take place at 10am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30 pm and 2.30pm. They take between 30 and 40 minutes each and must be booked in advance by emailing: firstname.lastname@example.org
It's the start of the Park Ward Heritage Festival. Take a guided walk of West Central Halifax, starting at Lister Lane, visiting Francis Street, People’s Park, the birthplace of Speaker Whitley, the little-known Model Village at West Hill Park, the site of the Hanson Lane Bomb, the location of a fatal boiler explosion, Mackintosh’s early warehouse, and the sites of two murders – Mary Hackett (1953) and Emily Pye (1957). Ends at the Halifax Gibbet. Meet David Glover at 10.30 am at Lister Lane Cemetery Gates. The walk lasts for approx two hours and is FREE.
Enjoy a Sowerby Bridge Snippets guided walk , looking at snippets of the town’s history and heritage including; the deepest lock in the country, the ‘Tower of Spite’, the town’s Brontë connection, the company that powered the world, the local punishment for scolding wives & brewers of bad ale, ‘Happy Valley’ filming locations and more! At Westgate Arcade you can enjoy great live music from Friendly Brass Band between 12.30pm & 2.30pm
The Grayston Unity in Halifax is opening from 1pm. They hope to have some live music but can definitely say there will be free pork pies all day...you can't get more Yorkshire than that! Anyone who checks in on the day & tells them what Yorkshire means to them will be put in a draw to win a £10 bar tab. The Grayston will also be doing their lazy Sunday stuff too; so cask of the day will be a fine Yorkshire pint for £2.50.

Join Bankfield Museum for all things Yorkshire and have a go at making your own Yorkshire landscape! (11am -12pm, 1pm-2pm, 2pm-3pm £3.50 per child £2.50 PTL).
August 1st is also National Playday and Eureka! the National Children's Museum are having a day entirely dedicated to play, with FREE outdoor activities taking place in the Eureka! Park, but please note that normal museum admission still applies if you wish to go inside the museum.
