Friday 22nd June

The 25th Hebden Bridge Arts Festival begins, bringing you nine days of lively and diverse street entertainment, visual arts, music and theatre in surprising locations! The Incredible Festival of Ideas is in full swing. This radical, free, four day community festival across the Upper Calder Valley from Todmorden to Halifax is taking place over the whole weekend, with different things to enjoy and get involved with each day. Today there are presentations and conversations around the topic of place at Todmorden Town Hall from 9.30am. There are tours of the town at 11.30am and 4pm and Andy Kershaw’s African, Caribbean and Latin Dance Party DJ set at the Golden Lion from7pm £7.50. Shakespeare's Classic Tragi-Romantic-Comedy the Merchant of Venice comes to the Todmorden Hippodrome stage, from the team that brought you the award-winning production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. (Fri & Sat, Doors 7pm, Show 7.30pm, Tickets £10)

 

Saturday 23rd June

The Incredible Festival of Ideas continues, bringing you tours of Todmorden, a Healing Day at the Old Co-op and a day of fun, learning, sharing and creating all about food at Todmorden Community College and Tod Talks in the evening.

There's a Woodland Archaelology Festival at Ogden Water, Halifax . At this free family event you can take part in woodland heritage activities such as  iron smelting, wood working and pot making. (10am - 4pm Saturday & Sunday). 

The Calderdale Armed Forced Event at Southgate in Halifax town centre brings you stalls, military vehicles, equipment, a medical tent, full field kitchen and much more! Representatives from the armed forces will be there to help you find out about military life past and present. (9am – 5pm FREE)

Calderdale Heritage Walks bring you their annual Outlaws & Nuns walk on the private Kirklees Estate at Clifton, by kind permission of the owners. The walk includes the former Nunnery site, Gate House, 15th to 18th century farm buildings and ‘Robin Hood’s Grave’. PRE-BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL. It will not be possible to just turn up on the day! These walks are £5 per head. You can book in person at Halifax Visitor Centre, or by phone on 01422 368725 (fee for card transactions). Times and details given with tickets. Walks take place on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Routes Festival returns at the Orange Box Young People’s Centre, Halifax with live music from young talent aged 12-24 across two stages throughout the day, encompassing a wide range of musical styles – from pop to metal, dance to acoustic. (From 12pm, £4)

 

Sunday 24th June

The spectacular Handmade Parade takes to the streets of Hebden Bridge, setting off at 12 noon from the Handmade Parade workshops on Victoria Road and heading towards Calder Holmes Park, where there will be a mini festival of live music, dance, street theatre and a picnic in the park with fabulous food stalls from local vendors.

The Incredible Festival of Ideas comes to the Piece Hall, Halifax for the Incredible Fabulous Feast finale. Join in with this mass food preparation event, which will see renowned vegan and vegetarian chefs making the most of foods that are otherwise heading for landfill, before sharing this incredible feast together. Throughout the day there will be music from local bands and DJ Paul Brannigan. (Starts 2pm, eating 4pm).

Join Bel Hale and members of the Cromwell Bottom Wildlife Group (CBWG) in the car park at Cromwell Bottom Local Nature Reserve (HD6 2RG) for a 2-hour Summer Solstice Walk (about 2 miles on easy paths) to observe and identify the trees on the Reserve when they in full foliage. Refreshments will be available at the end of the walk. (1.15pm the walk is free, but donations to CBWG welcome).

Hebden Bridge Brass Band are holding their free Summer Concert at Mytholmroyd Community Centre (7pm).  Donations welcome.

The Orchestra of Square Chapel bring you their Summer Concert (7.30pm Tickets £12/£10).
