What's On in Calderdale August 10th - 12th

Friday 10th August

Go Pond Dipping at Hardcastle Crags and see how many amazing creatures you can find! (12pm – 3pm FREE. No need to book, just turn up).

The Happy Valley Pride Festival continues throughout the weekend, with acclaimed singer Camille o'Sullivan live at Hope Baptist Church tonight at 8pm (£17.50/£15). 

Saturday 11th August

It’s the Halifax Agricultural Show at Savile Park, Halifax. Get up close to farm and domestic animals, enjoy local produce, flowers, fruit & vegetables and crafts with entertainment ‘The Britalian Job’ recreating the famous chase scene from The Italian Job with a trio of Mini Coopers; The Sheep Show introducing various sheep with a story to tell and a dance to their own theme tune; The City of York Pipe Band playing a vast repertoire of music; plus The Yorkshire Air Ambulance landing so you can see them up close. There’s also vintage vehicles, farmer's markets, stalls, demonstrations and loads of food and drink! (Save 20% on ticket prices by buying in advance, before 4pm on Friday 10th August: Adults Advance/On the day £8/£10, Children £4/£5, Family £20/£25).

Join in and help Chalk It Up at The Piece Hall, creating a large scale interactive art work on The Piece Hall courtyard. Artists UrbanCanvas will guide you using chalks and pastels to bring to life a formation of butterflies, inspired by the architectural patterns and 18th century butterfly cabinets. (12 Noon – 4pm FREE just turn up).

Remember that the Calderdale Industrial Museum next door to the Piece Hall is open on Saturdays too! (10am – 4pm. Adults £5, children aged up to 16 years FREE).

It’s the biggest day of the Happy Valley Pride Festival with the Big Day Out; a whole day of family-friendly entertainment packed with live music, dance, stalls and bars. (Pol Street car park, Hebden Bridge. 11am – 6pm FREE). There's alos an Expo at Hebden Bridge Town hall with free entry 11am - 4pm. There’s loads more taking place through the day too. Over in Brighouse The Millers Bar are having a Garden Party, with live acoustic music through the day, prosecco, pimms, picnics and much more, perfect for all the family to enjoy! You can also climb the neighbouring  ROKTFACE, the UK's highest man-made climbing wall, for just £10 (that's half price!).

Also in Brighouse, a new Summer Exhibition begins at Harrison Lord Gallery featuring work by artists Mark Sofilas from Leeds and Michael Abrams from Wakefield. Admission is FREE, so call in to see this wonderfully uplifting body of work featuring landscape and seascape scenes.

Join Calderdale Heritage Walks to explore Akroydon & Around. Meet at 1.45 pm in Bankfield Car Park, outside museum entrance. (£3 per person).

 

Sunday 12th August

Chalk It Up continues at The Piece Hall from Noon to 4pm.

The Happy Valley Pride Festival concludes with a family-friendly Pink Picnic at Calder Holmes Park from 12 Noon onwards, with face painting, children's entertainmet and a Pink Pooch Parade at 2pm!
