Friday 7th December
This weekend is the Illuminating Halifax festival. Square Chapel Arts Centre, Halifax Minster and The Piece Hall, are lighting up their buildings in one mesmerising weekend of spectacular light. Click here for details of what’s taking place where and when. (7th - 10th Dec).
It’s the Sowerby Bridge Christmas Lights Switch On. Join Memory Lane Cafe at 5pm for carol singing around the Christmas Tree at the Village Restaurant on Wharf Street. Mulled wine, hot drinks and mince pies are available, with the lights being switched on at 6pm.
Enjoy a festive night to remember at the Elland Christmas Lights Switch On, from 6pm with the switch on at 7.30pm. At 6.45pm there's a chance to see The Snowman at The Rex Cinema only £2.50 for adults, £2 for children (doors open 6.20pm)
Enjoy the timeless northern comedy Hobson’s Choice at Todmorden Hippodrome (Doors 7pm, Performance 7.30pm) (The last performance will be this Saturday).
Saturday 8th December
A selection of local crafts and produce on sale in just time for Christmas at Bankfield Museum. The perfect place for present buying or to treat yourself! (10am – 3pm FREE entry).
Santa’s at Westgate Arcade this Saturday and Sunday from 11am – 5pm. As he’s a magical fellow, he’s also visiting a special grotto in the Jungle Experience at Manor Heath Park, where you can part in a Christmas crafts session (crafts aimed at children aged 3+) then visit Santa in his grotto and receive an early Christmas gift.
The York Waits are back for their annual festive concert at Square Chapel Arts Centre (12pm). at 8pm Halifax Concert Band present their Christmas Festival, too.
A new exhibition of art by Kate Lycett and Lucy Pittaway begins at Harrison Lord Gallery in Brighouse today.
There’s Music at Walshaw Lodge with the unusual trio of trumpet, flute and piano offers a fun programme of solos, duos and trios, with a piece specially written by the young British composer Jonathan Clinch. (Tickets only, booking required)
Sunday 9th December
There’s Carols at All Souls Church, Haley Hill. Wrap up warm, as there’ll be no heating, but a magical atmosphere in this fantastic building (4pm)
Join the Cube Choir for their winter concert at Square Chapel Arts Centre, featuring traditional Christmas songs and readings. (7.30pm)
Northern Broadsides are proud to be staging A Christmas Cantata, a concert version of the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol at The Viaduct Theatre, Dean Clough. (3pm & 6pm)
Join Hebden Bridge Brass Band for their Christmas Concert at The Church of the Good Shepherd, in Mytholmroyd (7pm FREE entry)
