May Day Bank Holiday Fun in Calderdale

Thursday April 27th

The internationally-renowned Hebden Bridge Burlesque Festival returns for four days of fun-filled fabulousness featuring some of the best performers from the world of Burlesque and Alternative Cabaret!  (27th – 30th April)


Friday April 28th

The third annual Todmorden Folk Festival brings you three days packed with live music, dancing, singing, mirth & merriment at several fantastic venues across Todmorden Town Centre. (28th – 30th April)

There’s more live stand-up comedy gold at Dick & Liddy’s Comedy Club at Victoria Theatre, Halifax.


Saturday 29th April

There’s great family fun to be had at the Northowram Scarecrow Festival (Northowram village, Halifax) – Scarecrows, a Treasure Trail, Bouncy Castle, Live Music, BBQ, Cream Teas, Dog Show, Raffle, Competitions, Arts & Crafts and More!

Its’ the Lister Lane Cemetery Open Day. The cemetery is officially recognised as a European Cemetery of Significance. Come along and learn about its fantastic history with one of two separate walks taking place at 1pm (lasting 75 mins each). A further general tour of the cemetery takes place at 2.45pm with local historian David Glover.

Enjoy an evening of Variety entertainment starring Billy Pearce and Friends, at Victoria Theatre Halifax.


Sunday 30th April

The Tour de Yorkshire returns to Calderdale!!! As part of Stage 3, the ‘Yorkshire Terrier’, the peloton are anticipated to enter Calderdale at around 2.40pm. See our blog post for full details including the race route and estimated timings!

The world premiere of Tim Benjamin's oratorio Herakles takes place at Todmorden Town Hall, performed by Todmorden Choral Society along with an augmented Todmorden Orchestra. A drama involving gods, titans, empires, and even Time herself.


Monday May 1st

Shibden Hall brings you its Beltane Traditional Craft Show, with demonstrations of traditional crafts including pole lathing, blacksmithing and rag-rugging as well as local Celtic traditions such as building a green man. Take part in May Day dancing and listen to traditional folk tales.

Climb to the top of the tallest folly in the world! Wainhouse Tower is open for you to climb the 403 steps of the internal spiral staircase and take in the spectacular views from the top. You can also walk the Wainhouse Trail with a guided walk from Calderdale Heritage Walks.
