English Tourism Week Day Seven: 5 Great Places In Calderdale To See A Movie

English Tourism Week is here to help kick start the holiday season! To help celebrate the many, many great things Modestly Magnificent Calderdale has to offer, we're going to making a new post each day listing just some of the great things you can see, do, eat and drink!

Today, five great places in Calderdale where you can see a movie. Not one of these is a multi-screen, multiplex cinema complex. Calderdale does have that option, but today we're looking at two independent cinemas, a centre for the arts and two venues where you might not know you can see movies, but which hold popular film nights.

Hebden Bridge Picture House

(pictured above) There aren't many cinemas where you're able to enjoy delicious hot drinks in china mugs in the auditorium, buy homemade cakes from the refreshments kiosk and relax in seating with very generous legroom - but at the Hebden Bridge Picture House you can!

The Rex CinemaElland

One of the oldest purpose-built cinemas in the country, The Rex still has an organist playing for your entertainment before the movie begins on a Saturday night, a mid-movie interval for ice cream & treats and you can buy tea, coffee and hot chocolate to enjoy as you watch the film.

Electric Palace Todmorden

The Todmorden Hippodrome screens regular monthly movies at its Electric Palace cinema at bargain prices!

Brighouse Cinema

There hasn't been a purpose-built cinema in Brighouse for over 40 years, however the Assembly Rooms in Brighouse are regularly turned into a cinema for the night, complete with meal deals at local restaurants and with refreshments available to enjoy before the film begins and during an intermission.

Square Chapel Centre for the Arts, Halifax

In addition to live music, theatre, workshops and comedy - Square Chapel also brings you a regular selection of great movies. Experience the current big releases as well as the latest British, Arthouse, Documentary, Classic and Children’s films. Enjoy a film, a good cuppa and homemade biscuits, all included in the ticket price with Arts & Biscuits on Fridays!

We don't think tyou'll mind us sneaking a sixth entry onto our list of five - The Grayston Unity in Halifax offer occasional outdoor film shows, where you can vote for the film to be shown. Visit their Facebook page to find out more.
