The Christmas Lights are already switched on in Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd and from this weekend the rest of Calderdale will begin to light up too!

You’re going to be spoilt or choice on Saturday 25th November – just look at everything we have for you to choose from!

The Halifax Christmas Lights Switch On brings a day of entertainment and activity with Stilt walkers, fire breathers, face painters, balloon modellers and a whole host of entertainers across the town centre. The light switch on will take place at 5:30pm at the top of Woolshops. (Sat 25th Nov)

The Lamplighter Festival will light up Todmorden with a handmade lantern parade, fire performers, street bands, illuminated installations and great food. (Sat Nov 25th Illuminated Street Festival 5 – 8.30pm; Lantern Parade 6- 7pm)

Christmas at the Piece Hall brings you a Grand Spiegel Tent with a 16 day programme of shows; a Yorkshire Christmas Market; Light Installation; Hygge Tent; Festive Family Workshops; 30 foot Christmas tree; Festive food & drink; Yorkshire Artist's Showcase and superb independent shops, cafes and bars. There’s something for everyone! (Sat 25th Nov – Sun 31st Dec)

Visit Father Christmas and a few of his Elven friends in the snuggliest grotto in town at Eureka! - named one of the UK’s best by popular parenting site You can also explore the wonder of light and shadow in their interactive winter show ‘Night Lights’ (25th Nov – 31st Dec). The big man in red will be meeting visitors from 25th Nov - 23rd Dec and Eureka! are offering autism-friendly sessions from 10am – 11am.

 The Brighouse Christmas Market brings you an amazing food and craft market, live music, camels, carols, Santa, street entertainment and more! (Saturday 25th 10am - 5pm with the town’s Christmas lights being switched on by Father Christmas in his horse drawn sleigh at around 4pm. The market re-opens 10am on Sunday 26th  until 4pm).


Christmas with the Rat Pack is the coolest party in town so beat the winter blues with 'Frank, Sammy and Dean' at Victoria Theatre Halifax (Tues 30th Nov 7.30pm).


December brings the Halifax Minster Christmas Tree Festival; 32 real Christmas trees from 6ft to 18ft, beautifully decorated and sponsored by local businesses for your enjoyment. (Fri Dec 1st – Mon Dec 4th 10am to 4pm except for Sun 3rd Dec 12pm to 5pm).

You can meet Santa and his Elves at the Westgate Arcade (Every Sat & Sun from 2nd Dec - 17th Dec 10.30am - 4pm and from 18th Dec - 24th Dec. 10.30am - 4pm).

Enjoy the Ripponden Christmas Market complete with live music and stalls full of festive fare. (Sat 2nd Dec 11am - 6pm The Old Bridge Inn, Ripponden).

Take part in candle-lit Advent Carol Service at Halifax Minster (Sun 3rd Dec 6.30pm).

Meet Santa at Shibden Park enjoying a ride on the land train and miniature railway with the Friendly Brass Band providing live music on the day and other entertainment including a raffle, Christmas Bran Tub and Letters to Santa (Sat 9th Dec 9am - 4pm).

Saturday 9th December is another busy day:

A selection of local crafts and produce on sale in just time for Christmas at Bankfield Museum Christmas Craft Fair. (10am – 3pm FREE)

Winter at the Woolshops in Halifax brings you FREE family fun on Saturday 9th, 16th and 23rd of December, with a Giant Snow globe and festive characters.

The York Waits are back for their annual festive concert at Square Chapel Centre for the Arts. Enjoy winter and Christmas music spanning many centuries, from many countries (12pm).

If you enjoy vintage style, lively music and good old fashioned entertainment, you’ll have a ball with The Swing Commanders, also at Square Chapel (8pm).

Sowerby Bridge Winterlight Festival is a feast of sights and sounds created by a group of artists, musicians and technicians from across the community it’s free to attend so come along and enjoy the music, performances and fireworks! (Sun 10th Dec).

Mount Zion Methodist Heritage Chapel invites you to their Christmas Carol Service for some rousing carols, followed by tea, coffee, cakes and mince pies. Everybody is welcome! (Sun 10th Dec 2.45pm-3.45pm).

Add a touch of sparkle to your festive season with a magical mix of music, comedy, adventure and fun as the pantomime Aladdin comes to Victoria Theatre, Halifax (Sat 16th Dec to Sun 7th Jan).

Santa’s at Ogden Water too! Visit Father Christmas in his magical woodland grotto in the woods. (Sat 16 Dec booking essential).

At Cinderella’s Magic Wand you can Meet Cinderella and Fairy Godmother in a magical costumed workshop at Shibden Hall. Help Cinderella with her chores and discover old toys. Create your magic wand and cast a spell to send Cinderella to the ball. (Sat 16th Dec 11.15am - 1pm, 1.30pm - 3.15pm booking essential).

Square Chapel Centre for the Arts brings you the classic Raymond Briggs animated features ‘The Snowman’ and ‘The Snowman and the Snowdog’ (Sat 16th Dec 2pm).

The Christmas Carol Service at Halifax Minster  brings you traditional carols and readings with music by the Minster Choir, organ and brass. (Sun 17th Dec 6.30pm)

Enjoy a perfect pre-Christmas treat with a delicious meal at Cedar Court Hotel with pantomime Beauty and the Beast. (Sat 23 Dec, Table bookings from 12pm until 1.15pm. Pantomime commences at 2.15pm).

Phew. all of this and we haven’t even mentioned the performances by Kate Rusby, Halifax Choral Society and the Square Chapel Cube Choir, or Christmas Door Wreath Workshops and a Gary Barlow tribute evening.
